next-gen wireless

Wed Aug 05, 2020 8:35 pm

Do you have a next-gen 2.4 and/or 5Ghz wireless product in the pipe?

I started out mikrotik wireless, and I really love the flexibility and nstream dual even pops up in nostalgia conversations these days fairly often. tik got left behind in 'ac wireless IMO. I get that NV2 wasn't 'ported' up to AC and I understand why that dev effort might not have been worth it. Now I'm running mostly ubiquiti airmax and LTU, and absolutely hating the company behind the products I use. I have some Cambium as well, but they have their issues too with price being a big one as well as pretty poor config options on radios.

I presume that a next-gen wireless kit would be 802.11ax and that offers pretty much everything 'stock'.

Let me tell you... I could not possibly be happier than mikrotik dropping 'ax versions of their existing products because I would be forklifting sites from ubiquiti and cambium would see a much smaller payment from me every month. I'm not alone here. There is a ton of mikrotik skilled people in the wISP world and we base our entire networks on mikrotik routers and switches (awesome job on the netpower 16P btw!).

Honestly, the biggest concern I have with a mikrotik 'ax upgrade coming out is fighting over stock because you wont be able to make them fast enough.

also note that cambium has 'ax test hardware in the field and it's beating LTU in 2x2 performance from the limited data I'm seeing.

please at least tease us with some news on this front. I'm on trajectory to do epmp4k (cambium's 802.11ax platform) but I would drop that plan fast if 'tik was getting 'back in the game' so to speak.

Nice to have next-gen products!!
.AX & WPA3 support.
Maybe 3x3 mimo plus..
Potentially other limited band support of wifi( 60ghz , 24Ghz ?)
