R11e-LTE: Serial port communication problem;

Tue Nov 03, 2020 9:29 am

Hi all;

I was wondering if any of you had the same or similar problem with R11e model of Mikrotik router.
Namely, I can`t get that serial port to work whatsoever. Tried mincom, putty, shell and nothing works.
Tik goes 8N1 @ 115200 on serial and same goes for PC. Tried Windows, Linux...it`s a major no-go.

Cable is "cool", meaning, it works on cisco switches (so that, presumably, eliminates the usb-serial adapter).

I`m required to configure this build so I can change SSID, limits and other Access Point related stuffies via serial cable.

any advices? ROuter is brand new, I have two of them. They work 1/1, except that damn serial-usb cable.

Please advise,

ty!

R11e-LTE is a mPCIe lte module and you try connect to it in how way ?
I think you use USB WWan adapter .

For now all my R11e-* lte modules works with 115200 and I can just communicate with them but I do that from RouterBoards thanks to at-chat feature.
If you want then try that way too and then use any LogicAnalyze to confirm your communication properties and then use usb wwan adapter.

PS. That R11e-LTE not have wifi, this is only lte module who should be insterted on some electronic board works as router mode.

It is confusing. You say that use a Cisco cable to connect, so, it can't be connected to R11e-LTE interface directly. So, I assume that you are trying to connect to a RouterBOARD that have some serial connection.

Possibilities: M33G, LtAP or LtAP mini.

All uses DB9 port connection. So I assume that your Cisco cable is the cable of Small Business series (SF300, etc), but you are saying that you not need an USB to serial adapter (Something strange to me except if your PC have a serial connection port on motherboard).

Now the Cisco console cables there are 3:

Cisco 72-3383-01:

Cisco 37-1090-01:

Cisco 3081401400:

These 3 are the most commons. None of these works with mentioned MikroTik models. Why?

1) Have RJ45, needs DB9 female + DB9 female
2) Have miniUSB and USB. Not compatible.
3) Have 2 DB9 female BUT the cable is Straight, not Null-Modem (Crossover).

How I can connect?

Using an USB to Serial RS232 adapter + Null-Modem console cable.

Recommendation?

Trendnet TU-S9 + TrippLite P450-006.

Now, researching the images on Internet I found this:

https://www.hardwarejet.com/cisco-37-0932-01.html

Confirm if this is your cable that your are using please.

Regards.
