10MHz channel width

Wed Mar 07, 2018 12:06 pm

Hi,
we wanted to use lower channel width in highly noisy enviroments and I did a few experiments some time ago outdoor and it showed that 10MHz is actually faster then 20MHz.

I want to configure new access points to 10MHz right from the start, but I have a problem.

For a begining I am creating a channel list like this:

It is on SXT SA AC

interface wireless channels
add band=5ghz-a/n frequency=5475 list=10MczOUT name=5475 width=10
add band=5ghz-a/n frequency=5485 list=10MczOUT name=5485 width=10
add band=5ghz-a/n frequency=5495 list=10MczOUT name=5495 width=10
add band=5ghz-a/n frequency=5505 list=10MczOUT name=5505 width=10
add band=5ghz-a/n frequency=5515 list=10MczOUT name=5515 width=10
add band=5ghz-a/n frequency=5525 list=10MczOUT name=5525 width=10
add band=5ghz-a/n frequency=5535 list=10MczOUT name=5535 width=10
add band=5ghz-a/n frequency=5545 list=10MczOUT name=5545 width=10
add band=5ghz-a/n frequency=5555 list=10MczOUT name=5555 width=10
add band=5ghz-a/n frequency=5565 list=10MczOUT name=5565 width=10
add band=5ghz-a/n frequency=5575 list=10MczOUT name=5575 width=10
add band=5ghz-a/n frequency=5585 list=10MczOUT name=5585 width=10
add band=5ghz-a/n frequency=5595 list=10MczOUT name=5595 width=10
add band=5ghz-a/n frequency=5605 list=10MczOUT name=5605 width=10
add band=5ghz-a/n frequency=5615 list=10MczOUT name=5615 width=10
add band=5ghz-a/n frequency=5625 list=10MczOUT name=5625 width=10
add band=5ghz-a/n frequency=5645 list=10MczOUT name=5645 width=10
add band=5ghz-a/n frequency=5655 list=10MczOUT name=5655 width=10
add band=5ghz-a/n frequency=5665 list=10MczOUT name=5665 width=10
add band=5ghz-a/n frequency=5675 list=10MczOUT name=5675 width=10
add band=5ghz-a/n frequency=5685 list=10MczOUT name=5685 width=10
add band=5ghz-a/n frequency=5695 list=10MczOUT name=5695 width=10
add band=5ghz-a/n frequency=5705 list=10MczOUT name=5705 width=10
add band=5ghz-a/n frequency=5715 list=10MczOUT name=5715 width=10

I am leaving 5635 because this is a radar freq...
setting mode to ap bridge,
frequency auto
scan list to 10MczOUT
coutry to debug

it seems to work only 5715 says it is incompatible
why? according to specs it supports 5150MHz-5875MHz range
AR9888 is the chipset

another question is about channel frequencies...
I want to make channels to fit 20MHz standard use... si I asume if I set 5500 at 20MHz channel it is actually 5490 to 5510... so 2 10MHz channels are 5495 and 5505 right?

And now the strange thing.... when I do the same to omnitik which has also AR9888 chipset then all the 10MHz channels does not work - all channels not supported. Tested on 6.39.2 and also tried to upgrade to 6.41.2.

What am I doing wrong?

Mikrotik does not support 10 Mhz Channel size on all AC Equipment....
One of some more thing MT doesn't Support on AC
like spectral scan
spectral history
etc

if you disable
" add band=5ghz-a/n frequency=5715 list=10MczOUT name=5715 width=10" The

link will unconnected? i mean is not going to conneced if you have got same conf on other side?

did you try with bold frequency, just in case how is going on.

There is no support for 5 and 10 MHz Channel in Mikrotik ac devices, this is not about configuration this is a driver Limitation

so what do you suggest? switch to older a/n or to different vendor? btw we have 4000+ routerboards online...

If you need this channel sizes, you need to switch!
There is no Information if Mikrotik will add Support to 802.11ac Hardware, and if they it would cost you years!

Do want to start a bigger Migration?
What kind of? More throughput?

yes, more throughput with better used frequency spectrum. I want be able to do switch of the whole network, just in super noisy enviroment.

Wish I had realized this.

I thought the limitation was on particular devices, not the entire AC line.

Just got a handful of hardware now that I'm not sure I can even use.
