HAP AC2 5Ghz interface was not running 2 days

Mon Dec 28, 2020 12:10 pm

The 5Ghz interface was not running on my HAP AC2. It started about 2 days ago. I set frequency to 5180MHz. That is channel 36. It is not a DFS channel. Also removed almost all non-default config.
/interface wireless> print
Flags: X - disabled, R - running
 0    name="lacinet_5" mtu=1500 l2mtu=1600 mac-address=B8:69:F4:09:BE:FB arp=enabled interface-type=IPQ4019 mode=ap-bridge
      ssid="lacinet_5" frequency=5180 band=5ghz-onlyac channel-width=20/40mhz-Ce secondary-channel="" scan-list=default
      wireless-protocol=802.11 vlan-mode=no-tag vlan-id=1 wds-mode=disabled wds-default-bridge=none wds-ignore-ssid=no
      bridge-mode=enabled default-authentication=yes default-forwarding=yes default-ap-tx-limit=0 default-client-tx-limit=0
      hide-ssid=no security-profile=default compression=no

 1  R name="lacinet_24" mtu=1500 l2mtu=1600 mac-address=B8:69:F4:09:BE:FA arp=enabled interface-type=IPQ4019 mode=ap-bridge
      ssid="lacinet_24" frequency=2437 band=2ghz-onlyn channel-width=20mhz secondary-channel="" scan-list=default
      wireless-protocol=802.11 vlan-mode=no-tag vlan-id=1 wds-mode=disabled wds-default-bridge=none wds-ignore-ssid=no
      bridge-mode=enabled default-authentication=yes default-forwarding=yes default-ap-tx-limit=0 default-client-tx-limit=0
      hide-ssid=no security-profile=default compression=no
Tried to set frequency to auto, but it does not help. I have tried to do "/system logging add topics=wireless,debug" and then disable and re-enable the interface.

I cannot see any error message anywhere. RouterOS version is 6.46.8 (long term).

As a last hope, I rebooted the router and it started to work again.

Did anyone else experience such thing with the long term version?

Can you clarify, what you mean by "not running"? did you scan with various mobile devices and simply did not see such SSID? or you mean something else?

Look at the status. It does not have the "R" flag. It is not running. And yes, the ssid was not visible from any device.The radio was not working.

The ssid was not visible. I tried to connect but no beacons were coming out. There was nothing to connect to. Could not reproduce since I rebooted the router.

In the first 1-2 years after hap ac2 release, there used to be a bug in routeros that caused the 5Ghz interface on arm hardware to crash with the symptoms you described. But it has been fixed for quite some time now, even in the long-term branch.

stumbled upon this topic - i have a similar problem with both of my hap ac lite units. ssid is just not visible. i have it on 2 locations, it takes hours before any client device (staying in the same room) finally see the 5ghz network and then connects. on both routers the freq is 5180, 20/40 ce channel.
for test i took a random 5ghz AP (i had speedport and zte at hand), poof instant connected on their 5ghz ssid.
even on phone with pingtools running, wifi scanner don't see the hap ac wifi network. then after some time it just decides to work.

not to say that the wifi signal from that hap ac lite doesn't go beyond the corner, white with speedport or zte (also internal antennas) i can cover the entire apartment.

i'm not complaining about it as it's not too important to me , i use other devices for wifi coverage, just wanted to comment that the problem itself is also on hap ac lite, running latest ros 6 long term version.

I've also have ths problem an hAP ac³ / RBD53iG-5HacD2HnD running RouterOS v6.49.1 (stable)
I have some IOT devices connected and the iot WiFi virtual wlan5 just stops and the IOT devices have problems.
I reset the virtual interface and it starts working again - seems as if the wlan5 went to sleep.
