2 Bugs? Problem with large subnet and default route

Sun Aug 19, 2007 3:04 am

This looks like a bug in Mikrotik, I am not positive but it should be easy to verify.

The ISP has a large subnet 255.255.192.0.

The IP assigned to me:
IP: 69.178.7.221
MASK: 255.255.192.0
BCAST: 69.178.63.255 (Must be set manually, Mikrotik doesn't set this correctly (bug 1))

Then assign a default route of:
69.178.0.1

Mikrotik will be unable to determine which interface the default route is on. It cannot be set manually either. I have checked the subnet, mask, broadcast, and route and they are all correct. Everything looks like it's correct but the Mikrotik cannot tell where the default route should go. (bug2)

I have tried this on another version of Mikrotik on another a 532 with the exact same results as well. This seems very basic and shouldn't be a problem.

If this requires a new version to fix, is there a workaround that can be used temporarily?

I have also sent a message to support.

Thanks,

- Dan

dan_99503 -

What version of MT RB OS are you using? I've tried the below on 2.9.31 - 2.9.45 and had no problem putting in the address - I put in like this (because I was lazy and didn't want to calculate the /mask) 69.178.7.221/255.255.192.0 MT calculated the mask as a /18, let me put in a route to it as well and identified the correct interface as you can see below.....

Check under system menu, see if the routing package in enabled (and which one - routing test or routing) - some versions of MT came w/routing package disabled.....that could be issue - doubtful though.....

7 address=69.178.7.221/18 network=69.178.0.0 broadcast=69.178.63.255
interface=Public actual-interface=Public

Thom,

Thanks for your input. The Mikrotik support folks got back with me and it was my mistake. I was not paying close enough attention and put the netmask in for the network and that's why they both failed.
