Relay Point as a bridge?

Can you recieve 802.11b singal, and then relay it in a bridged mode? While using the same ip subnet?

i have been exp with senao bridges as a relay/bridge ... connect the two units via their ethernet ports modding a cat 5 to allow poe on both units and put one in bridge mode and the other in ap mode... the bridge unit is on the ap subnet ....
