can a CRS be used as a basic router to pass an ip range using BGP?

Wed Jul 28, 2021 10:11 am

I would like to pass an IP or a range of IP to an internal router. This IP /range will be advertised using BGP but the other router (an udm pro) doesn’t handle it. So I was thinking to use router onntop but I figured that an L3 switch would be enouggh. Thid switch wiuld be p’ugged to the 2 core router i have and thn pass the IP to the router below:
R1 R2
   \ /
     CRS (BGP)
        |
   Other router
The CRS will publish its IP using BGP and forward the traffic (ipv4 and ipv6) to the other router.

Would a CRS317 works for it? Or does it really need L3 offloading and then w it for router OS 7?

It has the feature, but not the power. (e.g. good for small management/monitoring traffic etc) If you want to pass any reasonable traffic, you will need either L3 hw offload or full blown router.

The 317 with L3 HW offload will do the trick for IPv4, but offload has as yet no support for IPv6.

ah that’s unfortunate :/ . I will use the rb4011 i have then. It’s too bad it doesn’t have 2sfp+ ports :/
