MikroTik Chateau 5g modem firmware update

Hello i'm an happy owner of a Chateau 5g, i have a question about why when through terminal i put the command to update the module firmware i got the error: [admin@MikroTik] > /interface lte firmware-upgrade lte1
status: error: closing connection: <404 Not Found> 159.148.147.204:80 (5) (6)
Im wondering that the feature is not already implemented or am i missing something?
I have another "problem", my unit don't go higher than 2ca despite my bts is 4ca capable. I hope there isnt any firmware limitation or something else.

According to Quectel, the latest firmware for it is RG502QEAAAR11A04M4G. My router has the A03 version.

on the quectel forum there is a way to update the firmware, but maybe you have to take out the modem.
I have the problem instead of going back from 7.1.rb6 to the original firmware 7.0.3 stable chateau is nowhere to be found.

Same problem on my Chateau 5G. I think modem update is broken on it.
I also have Chateau LTE12 and modem update works OK on it.

Chateau 5G CA (Carrier Aggregation) is unknown. There is no publicly available list of possible CA combinations. I made support request for CA list but never got a reply from Mikrotik. My Chateau 5G can't do 4CA B1+B3+B3+B20, although is specified as 5CA capable.

Lower is CA list for Chateau LTE12 (not applicable to Chateau 5G)

mine has the 03 too. i asked for the 04 version from quectel and i got it, i took the module out and upgraded with m.2 to usb adapter..

in regards to the firmware-update concerns, i think that the chateau 5g is too new and they will implement the module firmware update function in the near future

The firmware upgrade command is now working on my Chateau 5G, at least for me:

Unfortunately, this new version does seem to want to connect in 3CA for me or very briefly.

With the 11.03 version, it consistently connected in B20+B1+B3, using B20 as the primary band. With the 11.04 version, it connects in B20+B3. If I manually select B20+B1, it will connect in this combination, but not B20+B3+B1.

Even when it connects in B20+B1, it is getting a terrible B1 signal reading (-120dBm RSRP, -19dB RSRQ vs around -105dBm RSRP, -8dB RSRQ), like it's getting the signal from another antenna port. I've ports A0 and A1 wired to the rear SMA ports, which run out to an outdoor pair of LPDA antennas.

I'll try some testing later, but if I cannot get B20+B1+B3 back, I'll end up going back to the Chateau LTE12. Most of my download speed comes from band 1 that it's now having trouble with.

I think they uploaded the wrong version. The chateau 5g module is rg502q-ea, the update firmware listed in your screenshot is for the rg500q-ea that is another module. I think this is the wrong firmware

When I monitor the cells, the signal strengths intermittently swap between bands 1 and 3, so one moment band 1 is strong and band 3 is weaker or vice versa. When I disconnect the additional antenna (that routes to modem ports A4+A6 inside), it drops the weaker band, i.e. which it was sourcing from these antenna ports.

Interestingly, the LTE status page just reports 2CA (B20+B3), but I know it's connecting in 3CA as there is a huge difference in the speed between manually selecting bands B20+B3 (59Mbps down) and B20+B3+B1 (140Mbps down in following test). Without the additional antennas, I just get around 60-80Mbps depending whether it connects on band 1 or 3 with the main outdoor antenna (modem ports A0+A1).

I think there is stil few bugs on this chateau.. i have a tower with 4 bands but my chateau consistently use only b7+3 and sometimes aggregate b1 and b20 but they disappear in few seconds and then appear again.. i dont know why

Thanks for confirming this. Pity Quectel didn't mention about switching antenna ports for connecting a 3rd carrier for 3CA as I would have held off the firmware update until I got time to install the additional antennas outside.

It's safe. It's first download fw file, next go offline and install it (until power is still on then no worries). FOTA is used internally and works good. Then lte module is restarted and you have lte back.

Hi, where did you get these infos about antenna ports switch?

I found out from my own testing. I tried figuring out why one of the carrier aggregation bands got so weak after the firmware upgrade. The RG502Q-EA documentation mentions that antenna ports 4+6 (on the modem) are for second MIMO on the medium/high bands (1452-2690MHz), which made me wonder if it was using these ports to divide the load even with 2x2 MIMO. I connected two additional U.FL to SMA pigtails internally to the modem antenna ports 4+6, then attached two more antennas to these ports.

My LTE connection typically consists of 3 carriers - EARFCN 6300+1700+525. Before the firmware upgrade, it connected to all three carriers on antenna ports 0+1. After the firmware upgrade, it now uses antenna ports 4+6 for EARFCN 525:

If I disconnect the additional antennas, the RSRP of those 525 readings drop below -130dBm, then disappear.

Occasionally it will swap the EARFCN 1700 and 525 around, in which case EARFCN 525 comes in around -105dBm via antenna ports 0+1 and EARFCN 1700 comes in around -116dBm. In this case, disconnecting the additional antennas will cause the EARFCN 1700 to drop out.

Maybe it's specified but in my case it doesn't work. My mobile phone connects normally 4CA B1+B3+B3+B20, but on Chateau 5G I can get max 3CA to work (B1+B3+B3, B3+B3+B20, B1+B3+B20). Signal strength is good (I checked each band using band selection).

All m.2 LTE modules use a MHF4 connector (smaller), not a u.FL but MikroTik can do own way :)

The firmware upgrade command is now working on my Chateau 5G, at least for me:

Unfortunately, this new version does seem to want to connect in 3CA for me or very briefly.

With the 11.03 version, it consistently connected in B20+B1+B3, using B20 as the primary band. With the 11.04 version, it connects in B20+B3. If I manually select B20+B1, it will connect in this combination, but not B20+B3+B1.

Even when it connects in B20+B1, it is getting a terrible B1 signal reading (-120dBm RSRP, -19dB RSRQ vs around -105dBm RSRP, -8dB RSRQ), like it's getting the signal from another antenna port. I've ports A0 and A1 wired to the rear SMA ports, which run out to an outdoor pair of LPDA antennas.

I'll try some testing later, but if I cannot get B20+B1+B3 back, I'll end up going back to the Chateau LTE12. Most of my download speed comes from band 1 that it's now having trouble with.

search a DFOTA document. I not use that way yet and all re-flashing was done per USB-Adapter or just upgrades inside MikroTik.

The RouterOS v7.1rc4 has fixed the built-in cell monitor, which now displays more neighbour cells. I didn't realise how slow the built-in cell monitor is at refreshing the readings until I compared it against a script I wrote as a workaround during v7.1rc1/2/3.

From testing the cell lock command (thanks to SiB for helping me a while back), this 5G modem appears to support SCC cell locking. This has come in very handy with the 11.04 firmware as it regularly switched to EARFCN 100 instead of 525, which is much slower here. Due to my distance from the mast, I cannot lock to a primary cell on EARFCN 525, so instead lock it as an additional cell, which it appears to lock to in the CA list.

For example, the following locks to EARFCN 6300,PCI 127 as the primary cell, then 1700,115 and 525,115 as the CA cells:

To demonstrate this, I chose a very weak EARFCN 1700, PCI 116 below as the secondary cell. Normally it would never use this cell for CA due to having an RSRQ of -20dB, probably the sector facing the opposite direction:

Obviously the speed is terrible trying that. However, it shows that it can be set to specific CA cells that I thought was not possible, at least not with the Chateau LTE12.

I now testing the EM160R-GL and RM502Q-AE.. they can do a CellLock of course. They have some other AT Commands syntax.... and differ CA Matrix.
I have access to https://e-service.quectel.com from all PDF documents are always latest - that mean at final way I try now prepare a custom scripts for manage each of them.

Thanks to your scripts from your website I discover second meaning of :terminal command !! This give me build similar scripts like yours. This is awesome discovery.

it will not work with 5G only you havr yo active 4G & 5G sorry it’s not like huawei 5G CPE outdoor N5368X you can choose SA only 5G
