Tunnel with EWON devices

Thu Mar 10, 2022 4:55 pm

Hi,

We have several eFive products that are discontinued and that we would like to replace with Mikrotik rb5009ug+s+in. Those devices link together several Ewon Flexy 205 and Cosy 131 that are installed at different customers locations, and make them available for a general SCADA. The problem is that they require LZO compression, and it's not possible to disable it on the client side.

On their website they recommend using Netgate pfSense devices, but I've been using Mikrotik for years at home, and wanted to give them a try. The problem is that I can't find at all the settings for LZO compression, and I've been reading a lot on the forum about it, saying that it is not implemented.

My question is, when will it be implemented, if at all, or do you have another solution to make this work?

Please note that we can't use Mikrotik products in our electrical panels as they are not CSA or UL certified, so replacing the Ewons is not a viable option, as it would be illegal here in Canada, but the eFive are products that are installed in server rooms, so that's not a problem. Also, we have a lot of Ewons installed over the years, are we can't go and replace them all, so we need a solution that is backward compatible.

If we can't make it work with Mikrotik products, we'll have to go with Netgate pfSense devices, which would be a shame, but still more cost effective than replacing all of the Ewons.

Thank you

Good question the brochure states Certifications of CE, FCC, IC.
https://www.batteryspace.com/ul-ce-emc-fcc-and-csa.aspx

Clearly shows that CE covers europe for everything but only on paper and only by the company itself (boo), FCC covers radio TXs in the US but not electrical safety and IC is the Canadian equivalent to FCC (wifi products and radio signals)

*** An FCC certification does not imply that the product is safe or durable. It simply means that it meets regulated limits for ionizing radiation.

I should note on the product page itself it additionally mentions CE ROHS certs, which basically states the product is free of hazardous materials!

Thus the OP has a decent point, nowhere to be found is proof that the electrical safety of the RB5009 or probably any MT product has been proven to met NA standards ???

Summary: MT equipment for insurance purposes should not be used in any North America Facility as the lack of certification, will lead to nullifying any claims in case of fire...........
Summary: MT equipment for insurance purposes should not be used in any European facilities because electrical safety HAS NOT BEEN TESTED, the CE certification implies on conformity but NO LEVEL OF TESTING or any testing by an independent laboratory!!

If I am wrong..............Will gladly like to be corrected!!!!
