High traffic causes Nstreme Dual to drop - RB333 XR5 RC3.0

High traffic causes Nstreme Dual to drop - RB333 XR5 RC 3.06

I mean high traffic in excess 15mbps. The Nstreme Dual interface does not come back before the watchdog timer resets the RB333. Previously I had turned the watchdog off, the RB333 responded on the ethernet side but the Nstreme Dual interface showed no connection to other unit.

I am using the NTP package vice the SNTP package for time keeping - I saw that error right away in winbox for SNTP.

Firmware ( /system routerboard print 2.10) is up to date.

24vdc POE
2 - XR5 cards
2 - 24 dbi panel antennas
approximately 60ft (less than 20 meters) cat5 run.
5Ghz - no turbo
Signal levels approximately -55db on all 4 antennas/XR5s (+/- 1 to 2 db during operation)

I have sent a couple of supout files to support at mikrotik...I have to assume that they are doing something - rc7 and rc8 came out with in 5 days of the support file - and I am SURE that I am not the only one sending them in....

The drop is not consistant..meaning it can drop at a lower speed, or a higher speed. Time does not seem to be a factor - not every ten minutes or every other hour - totaly random in time the only thing that seems to trigger it is throughput via wireless.

I swapped RB333 with another new one, right out of the box, new XR5 cards, new pigtails - Same issue.....

EDIT > The cavet to this is I have 5 additional units setup just like this one - one of them talks to this unit as the 'other side' of the nstreme dual setup. None of them have this issue....

All use Nstreme polling, exact size framing, csma disabled (either way does not seem to make a difference)- that's all the 'extra' info I can think to add at this time.

Anyone?

How about rc8 MT ? - will that solve the issue?

Hello Thom!

I have the same issue, but also with SIMPLE NSTREME.

Disabling nstreme: 300-800ms pings
enabling nstreme: disconnects on high throughput, and some random times

no solution right now, I guess sw bug.

please try to set the framing-policy to none for your dual nstreme.

About the other post, if you see such huge ping times on your wireless link then you have interference or signal issues then nstreme will not help you.

uldis -

Originally there was no framing policy on the link. I changed that later in an attempt to 'fix' the issue at hand.

I know you're thinking CPU utilization or a memory leak crashed the RB, my thought too.... I removed everything from the unit, nat/ firewall rules, everything except the bare essentials. Still have the issue. Though not as prevenlant as it originally presented itself.... Still no consistancy either.

I have since added graphing to the RBs.... I am not seeing any hugh memory or cpu utilization before a crash. Likewise traffic is consistant across the link, I limited it via another ROS pc box to under 10m. Still it crashes from time to time.

I have RC8 so I will upgrade these two units soon and see what happens.
