only 8KB/s throughput on ptp-link

Tue Oct 30, 2007 11:08 am

Hi,

I set up a transparently bridged point-to-point link with a RB133 on one side and a RB333 on the other side. The Problem is that I got only a max. of 8KB/s ftp throughput (I tested with a laptop and ftp server/client on each side).

here are the config's of the two routerboards:

RB133C (v3.0rc8)
wlan-mode: bridge
Band: 5GHz
WDS-mode: dynamic
nstreme enabled
no queues, firewall rules.
signal strength: -60dBm
Tx Signal Strength: -62dBm
SNR: 41 dB
Tx/Rx CCQ: 97/77 %

RB333 (v3.0rc8)
wlan-mode: station-wds
Band: 5GHz
nstreme enabled
no queues, firewall rules.

Is this a known bug?

Don't know if this helps, but btw. two 133 and 133c i got ~ 6mbits one way, -78db signal, with r52. It's a three point wds bridge, with 1 ap and two station-wds.
Try changing the ap to be the 333 board. See if it changes anything.
Also do reset the configuration on both ends, and make it again. With that signal, something is definetly wrong.
What speed do you see from btest ?

Thanks for your answer.

I'll try that later.
Also do reset the configuration on both ends, and make it again.
I did that yesterday but without any effect.

Here are my btest results:

133 to 333 (I tested vice versa too with same results),

Both direction
Tx Rx
udp 14,7/14,7 Mbps
tcp 2,2/8,2 Mbps

Receive
udp 24 Mbps
tcp 10 Mbps

Send
udp 20 Mbps
tcp 9 Mbps

You are saying that you have
Both direction
Tx Rx
udp 14,7/14,7 Mbps
tcp 2,2/8,2 Mbps
and only in ftp transfer you get 8kb ?

Should your ftp server shape your connections in any way ? Is there a restriction on it ?
Try to transfer files with filezilla. See what happens. I got some weird results testing against a ftp server far away, and with filezilla i was getting at least double the speed of other programs.
Do try that. Or, try on another ftp server. Or, you could put a user with only ftp rights on one of your rb ( say rb333 cause you have more space), and transfer a 10 mb file from/to there.
See what you get.

I use cesarftp-server (small windows ftp-server) and flashfxp as ftp client, both are running on laptops directly connected to the routerboards.
I got some weird results testing against a ftp server far away

therefore I tested it on a wired connection firstly and had full speed so this has nothing to do with my ftp-software, because I have the same bad speed when I upload to the mikrotik.

Maybe a downgrade to 2.9.48 helps, I'll report later

Try downloading the btest application from mikrotik. Run it on one laptop to the wired routerboard. If speeds are bad, you found the link (could be the ethernet cable), if they are good, test to the other routerboard through the PTP link. If they're good again, run it on the other laptop and repeat the procedure.

@jcremin, I already tested this way and the wired side could definitly be excluded.

Downgrade to ros 2.9.48 was successfull now I have full speed the set up is now like this:

rb133(bridge) ------------------rb333(stations-wds)
ros2.9.48 ros3.0rc8

btw. only these packages are used on both sides:

advanced-tools, ntp, routerboard, security, system, wireless

regards,
chris

Will this show cpu lower than 100% on 133c and 112 ? ( 3.0rc9 ? )
All this boards are with 2.9.43 and in production. I wouldn't put anything on them if i have to wait 5 minutes for each command to be executed in winbox or cli.

there is a bug when you upgrade RB133C with disabled packages, on boot of the v3.0rc9 all the packages are enabled. We will try to fix it in the next release of the v3.0
