/24 subnet

Fri May 13, 2022 3:01 am

Hello im playing around in a lab. what im trying to do is have a /24 on the Core router (ccr2004) on sfp port 1 with the ip of 200.33.32.1/32. on the same router i have a bridge set up on sfp port 3-6 to pass the rest of the /24 too. Router 2 (ccr2004) sfp port 1 is plugged in to router 1 on sfp port 3. i want to give router 2 the ip of 200.33.32.x. what is the best way of doing this. BGP is on router 1 if that makes anything. just trying to test all this out.

thanks

Kris

When using routers, you typically don't want to just bridge the traffic through for a single subnet.

If you need to keep a /24 intact across multiple routers, VPLS is much better for that.

Here is an example topology for that

Config examples for VPLS are here:

ok what need to be done is the core router has a /24 that will go over a private fiber (rented form comcast ) to the office that is 50 miles around. The 2 office needs to use the /24 for servers there. what is the best way of doing this still Vpls?

Use an RFC1918 /30 network, route the /24 to the other IP of the /30 network.

Keep it simple..
