In terms of accessing networks remotely for the purpose of management/configuration changes, what's the better method for connecting?

ZeroTier seems to be lighter-weight, and doesn't require static IP or dynamic DNS, but other than that, I don't really know how one would be better than the other.

The best VPN is the one you use (but do stay away from PPTP).
It doesn't matter that much.
