RB532 lost password

Thu Nov 08, 2007 5:07 pm

Ok I have read most of the other post regarding lost passwords and have come to realize that the only thing you can do is Netinstall. I also realize that you lose all your data, which is fine by me, because I want to use the routerboard for something else anyway.

This is what I have done:

I have connected the RB532 to my computer via Serial cable.
I formatted the Nand.
I have connected the RB532 on ether1 to the switch via CAT5e cable to the switch where my PC is plugged in.
I downloaded Netinstall.exe and the latest RouterOS(v3.0rc9 and v2.9.48 for 500 series) from http://www.mikrotik.com/download.html

I connected to the RB532 via the Serial cable with:
Bits per second - 115200
Data bits - 8
Parity - None
Stop bits - 1
Flow Control - None

The connection to the RB532 is fine and I can see RouterBoot and all that.

I set the RB532 to boot via bootp and set Netinstall to enable the Boot server with a client address of 192.168.100.66(a free address on our local office range).

Now that you know what my setup is, here is my problem.

When(it only works sometimes) it picks up the RB532 in Netinstall, I select it. Then I select the package and enter the IP address on the right hand side(I assume that this IP is what the RB will have after the packages have been installed). In Hyperterminal, this is where it hangs:
Welcome to MikroTik Router Software remote installation
Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete to abort

mac-address: 00:0C:42:0F:A9:5C

software-id: DEQI-3TT key:
YCz0AE****************************dXbuXw*************
mdJsiA==

Waiting for installation server...
At this point it doesn't matter what I do on Netinstall, it doesn't go any further.

I have really trolled through the whole forum looking for help before deciding to make the post, so I really don't know what to do.

Please help...

Hi,

I dunno if this applies to you, but i had a similiar problem.

It turned out that i could not run netinstall off a flash drive (usb disk). I had to copy netinstall and packages to my pc itself before netinstall would work. Similiar symptoms to your problem.

Just a shot in the dark...

Nah, its not applicable to me, but a curious thing is that the whole time while I am trying to netinstall the RB, I see my Ipod in netinstall. I almost installed RouterOS v3.0rc8 on my Ipod

Anyway, if i can't find a way to make it work by the middle of the day, I am just taking it to the supplier I got it from and just ask them to re-install it.

You should see the router appear as in netinstall where it shows your ipod, you click on it, and click the install button..

You don't say......

sorry if I am a bit sarcastic, had a rough day. I have tried it, all that happens is:

The buttons gray out for a while(as if its doing something)
and then it goes back to the same state as what is was.

While all of this is (not) happening, nothing happens in the telnet session to the RB532

Been there. :) Netinstall will work 100% for us by using a standalone PC with only one network interface (no wlan) forced to 10Mbps. Use a static IP and connect directly to the router.

On the other hand, an Ipod portable router is a cool idea. Maybe an Iphone runnig MT as a Pocket HotSpot.

Never thought of forcing the speed to 10Mbps.

Thanks, I'll try it it and tell you what happened or didn't happen.

BUT FIRST

I am taking the weekend off.
