Hi!
Till now, I categorized myself as almost regular internet user. Nothing extraordinary:
Router HAP AC (RB962UiGS-5HacT2HnT), 100 Mbps internet connected via SFP port. Provider’s GPON modem power delivered via POE splitter.
At home we have:
three phones, tablet, notebook (WiFi users),
Smart TV, Home NAS, desktop PC (LAN users).
Some time ago configured VPN connection (IPsec) to remote side, got disappointed – router ‘s CPU capped at 100%, throughput ~40 Mbps. Reason for that I know – no hardware acceleration.
Some days ago, internet provider raised speed to 200 Mbps.
Now I’m looking for new router…
Few steps back … browsing internet I noticed, that almost all new PC motherboards comes with 10G or at least 2.5G ports - would be nice to get data from NAS at full speed.
My old I7700K (desktop PC) time is ticking
I like MIKROTIK and prefer their router have again.
My needs:
one 1G port with POE out support (802.3af compliant) for internet
two 10G ports for LAN (NAS, DESKTOP PC) or at least one 10G and one 2.5G or two SFP+..?
two 1G ports (for Smart TV and maybe some other device
one 1G port port with POE out support (802.3af compliant) for external WiFi AP if router without Wifi (prefer to have one box for WiFi and router.)
IPsec hardware acceleration
For that needs almost fit new hAP ax², but
no any 10G ports
in products description nothing about IPsec HW acceleration.
POE out only one port and no 802.3af compliant
I write this message with hope that Mikrotik staff to know regular user’s needs, and create products according they needs
