Anyone have any experiences with putting clear tape over a ufl connector for a CM9, R52 or SR9 to prevent it from popping out. Is there any downside or risk to doing this?

Tape should be fine, but hot glue seems to be the choice of several distributors (provided you never want to re-use the card without a lot of work!). As long as whatever you use isn't conductive or corrosive you should be fine.

That is the downside with hot glue, it is hard to get off. Someone told me recently though that they thought the clear tape would possibly generate moisture or hold in moisture.

I use the mini hot glue sticks with a cigarette lighter instead of a hot glue gun (so I don't get the glue too hot) and I make sure I don't put the hot glue on the ufl connectors so that the glue/connector can be removed without damaging the card.

Also here's a trick for getting hot glue off easily. Put the radio in the freezer for a couple minutes to cool the glue and then the hot glue should pop off the radio and pigtail in one solid piece.. Don't leave the radio in too long or condensation could form damaging the card..

If the glue comes off after a couple minutes in the freezer, it's not suitable for use in non-tropical locations. I hot glue it too. However, I'd rather have a permanently altered CM9 card than something that comes apart easily at 0f, especially if it saves me hours getting to a site to troubleshoot a loose cable.

You still have to apply pressure to have the glue come off. I meant that it will all come off in one solid piece instead of having to pick little chunks off like you normally do at room temperature..

I use hotglue as well - way better than nothing thats for sure. However, at 140F both glue spots inside my truck routerboard melted off. I found that plastic epoxy works even better - it's just more work. It would be nice if the mfg formed the tin shield on the card in just a way it would be used as a hold down too.

Some of the superglue products seemed to brittle for my use. There are epoxies that work great though. You want something that is strong, but not too hard. I would avoid the silicone based sealants; they reek of acetic acid and can corrode the connection.

How about a good quality electrical tape?

We have developed our own CPE's we sercure the pigtails by using small plastic clips with adhesive back, this holds the cable to the backing plate, we have made hundreds of these and never had an issue.
