"Could not set MTU"

Wed Jan 09, 2008 1:35 pm

Hi guys,

Having a funny issue with a RB333 and RC13.

Whenever i am trying to set MTU=1504 on this one i get an error "Could not set MTU".. Why? I need to set MTU for VLANs.

This goes for Ethernet Ports. Have tried on configured board, blank conf etc. Have 532A same RC13 that can do this.

At least für EoIP interfaces this is a confirmed bug which is said to be fixed in "the next release"...

Have a bad feeling that the switch chipset on 333 is too cheap to do this. On RB600 with same RoS you CAN set MTU bigger than 1500..

Each of the boards have different ethernet interfaces so - there are different drivers. I think Mikrotik uses manufacturer drivers - they don't write them. So my point is - this driver doesn't support MTU bigger than 1500

Why do you need bigger MTU? Why not just reduce MTU on the VLAn interface?

Because i have sold a lot of these to an FTTH ISP project where Routerboards will give full L3 functionality to common VLAN switches. They can actually save 50% of their budget compared to using vendors like Extreme Networks L3 switches. One of the demands for this is that we can give the users a full 1500 byte frame.. This we will have to solve using RB600's instead.
