DHCP and DNS

Sun Aug 13, 2006 2:07 am

MikroTik router configured as both DNS & DHCP server.

Any leases to clients using DHCP should be registered in DNS database. Normal feature with any DHCP server, apparently not with Mikrotik?

RouterOS v2.9.8 - Luckily I can still upgrade to v3.x someday

Seems to me I have to revert back to my Windows DHCP & DNS services...

Is there really no way to configure DNS on my Mikrotik with all DHCP leases?? Really strange

Perhaps more information is needed. I use MT for clients using NAT. DHCP offered includes the MT as the DNS resolver and gateway.

MT DNS only allows A records, not PTR records - so it is impossible. Even if PTR was allowed, what would you set the name to, the hostname, the user id, what? Not all DHCP clients give you a hostname parameter - I am looking at mine and 2 out of 10 have 'hostname' fields. Those happen to both be windows boxes, but still ... either way, there is no PTR support in Mikrotik so its not doable at this time.
