"Problems" with RBGPOE-CON-HP?

Sun Nov 29, 2015 5:05 pm

Hi everyone!

Few months ago I bought a RBPOE-CON-HP (48 to 24v PoE converter) in order to power a ubiquiti antenna using the PoE output of my Netgear Prosafe GS105PE-1000S. It worked like a charm but I decided to buy a RBGPOE-CON-HP due to its gigabit speed and now I'm in a really strange situation: if the converter it's plugged directly to the 48V PoE it powers on with no problem but if I connect it to the switch doesn't work, the power led just blinks and the switch led indicator blinks with the error code "PoE Fault".

It works perfectly with the RBPOE-CON-HP unit but won't boot at all with the RBGPOE-CON-HP so... is my unit faulty?

I have the same thing with a few of them, powers up, then just looks like it browns out and the output led just blinks and the unit clicks somewhat, unplug the output device then it resets to a solid LED.

I did however take one apart and it have a lot of thermal grease smeared all over it also being squished up through the via's and was making a mess on the component side of the PCB, not sure if that has to do with anything but after a clean seems to be working again, it also 10 degrees cooler right now so it also could be something to do with temperature but I just put it under a heat gun and I ran it to about 50-60ish degreesC, and it seems fine

Hmm I just plugged a higher load device into it and it faulting again. Might do some more tests.
