How to check if WDS devices lose connection to one another

Hi All,

At our property we have 3 Mikrotik devices:
  • RB433AH AP 1 Office 192.168.7.1
    RB751U-2HnD AP 2 Pool 192.168.7.2
    RB411AH AP 3 Pool 192.168.7.3
AP 1 and AP 2 are connected via WDS. AP 2 is then wired to AP 3.

We suspect the WDS connection between AP 1 and AP 2 is intermittently dropping and can be renewed by powering cycling AP 2.

I've enabled debug logging for Wireless, Hotspot and Interface on AP 1. What should I be looking for to verify if the WDS connection is being dropped intermittently?

Thanks! :)

Se the registration tab. It shows the uptime too.

Great advice. Thanks!

Is there a way to set up alert emails when a disconnect occurs or logs to be sent to my email periodically?

Cheers.

If other side device has an ip you can run netwatch. Then you can script whatever there. Also you can take link down counter and check it periodically in the script.

Thanks jarda. I may need some further advice on Netwatch soon.

For now, however, I have made another observation. I'm connected via TeamViewer to a workstation installed on site that is attached via ethernet to AP 1 using an interface that is not controlled by the Hotspot settings.

I'm noticing every minute or 2, the winbox, Teamviewer and ping connections drop out and resumes after a minute or so.

I've attached a screen cap of the dropout in case anyone can offer insight into what is going on here and how to resolve it.

I'm open to having a consultant look into this on my behalf if anyone is available.

Cheers!

You should check the link quality and make spectral analysis to be sure you have selected the right frequency band. Some close and powerful client can cause wds link breakage too.
