Hi,
I have run MT for well over a year but am puzzled about the new Netinstall upgrade method. I have licences for 2.9 so can upgrade to the latest 2.x version (as I write this, 2.9.29). I can't do FTP as the 'licence' has expired but the new policy allows me to upgrade all 2.x versions now.
However the PC boxes I use only have CF to IDE adaptors in; they do NOT have either floppy, HDD or CD drives.
As I read the forums, the best method to upgrade is:
a) Pull the CF card out
b) Put in into a computer with a CF reader / writer. This is no problem as I have plenty.
c) Run NETINSTALL with the target as the CF card
d) ENSURE 'keep old settings' is checked
e) Replace the CF card touching plenty of wood and crossing all available fingers...
MY QUESTION - does this method just upgrade from (in my case) 2.9.26 to 2.9.29 and RETAIN both my settings and (most importantly) my licence key?
If not I can back up the settings and reinstall the key, which I have - but I would prefer not to..
Thanks all.
EDIT - I should add, I have just run NETINSTALL to a fresh spare CF and I have the 2.9.29 npk file and boot files on the CF card, so NETINSTALL seems to work ok.
BUT my question still remains - does NETINSTALL run in this way still keep the key on the CF and still keep the settings (does it read the CF first before installing either a totally fresh copy or just upgrading ?). I do not want to find out the hard way.........................
