Problem with hAP AC Router

Sat Jul 02, 2016 1:08 am

I am having this strange problem with the hAP AC Router (RB962UiGS-5HacT2HnT) that I have be able to duplicate on multiple routers. So just to begin, I am sort of new to Mikrotik, only been using them off and on for a few years. They aren't my go to device in my core network so I don't keep up on all things Mikrotik. I was in need of a CPE for my customers that I can have my techs log into remotely and do some basic troubleshooting. We have been using the Mikrotik hAP AC Lites and they have been working great. So when the 1Gb version hit the market I bought 5 of them to give them a try on my Fiber to the Home network. Before I put these out I decided to test one of them in the lab to make sure they work like they should. Well the first problem I have had is getting them to actually test at 1Gb. If I use the Ethernet port as the WAN port I can not achieve speeds greater then about 50Mb. Sometime slower..... After talking to some folks they told me to try the SFP as the WAN. Well so far the performance is better but still not where I feel it should be. I can get around 300Mb down and up. So I deploy this router out to one of my guys who has FTTH at this house and he didn't really have an issue. Well a few weeks ago I noticed a separate issue using this 1Gb router with YouTube. My tech who had the test hAP AC router also noticed a problem with YouTube with videos that kept on buffering. HD Videos on YouTube were buffering every 10 seconds on a 1Gb fiber connection using the hAP AC Router just didnt seem right. I was thinking we were having a separate issue because we have a direct Peer through our upstream provider to YouTube. So I opened a ticket with Google, I worked with a YouTube network engineer, took some traces from Chrome, and sent it to the Engineer to look over. He replied back saying the trace show about 10% packet loss which HD videos can't work at 1080 with that much packet loss. Well after checking everything on my network, I determine that the problem is somewhere else. So I changed my router from the hAP AC to the hAP AC Lite and the problem was solved. I had my tech change his home router to the hAP AC Lite, his problem was solved as well. HD and 4K videos stream with no problems.

Is there anyone else having a problem with these hAP AC routers? I noticed it has a different switch chip in them. Could that be the problem? Is there any fix or are these devices just defective? Id really like to use these for my Fiber customers but I cant deploy them with this many problems.

Any help or advise would be awesome at this point!

So basically I just wasted money on these routers? Can someone at Mikrotik please confirm if this problem is being worked on? Is this a hardware issue that can't be fixed or is this just a software problem that will be resolved? I need to know if I need to send these units back for refund or if they are going to have a fix to the problem.

that i dont know.. if all hAP AC have that issue or some limited series have that problem. Mikrotik support must inspect this, and make refund for this faulty series.

Bump.

I am experiencing the exact same issue on a RB962UiGS.

My ISP is wiping their hands of this issue whilst I am pulling my hair out.

Any updates appreciated.

It could be your unit is faulty, have a look at the end of the previously quoted threads.

Thanks for bring this info to my attention.

However, my serial starts with 676405. Same issue as above but my serial number appears to be much more recent than quoted range.

Nor sure if I would get different range if returned to vendor.

Anything else I should be looking out for?

Save an export of the current config.

Netinstall it with ROS 6.36.3. Once logged back into the router, check System > Routerboard Current Firmware is the same as Upgrade Firmware; press Upgrade button if isn't. Check the log for a successful upgrade message, then reboot.

If problems persist, even with the default configuration, generate a supout file (Make supout.rif button in main winbox toolbar) and attach it on an email to support.
