2,4Ghz or 5 Ghz? 1km PtP without direct line of sight in urban area.

Sun Sep 18, 2016 9:20 pm

Hi there,

I want to deploy a PtP link in Berlin, going from the roof of a building to a 1km distant station on the ground.
There are 2 Houses in the way.
Now I'm thinking of trying it with two SXTG-2HnD because of their 32dbm power and better wall penetration of 2,4Ghz. But the Band is pretty jammed and the SXTs only have 16dbi gain...
Other option would be realizing it with two LHG 5. Less power, worse wall penetration in 5Ghz, but more narrow antenna angle and fewer interference.

What do you guys think?

5Ghz is almost useless without line of sight. You may get away with a light tree or two, but in general, you are going to lose signal very quickly.

Even one house would be hardly possible for ptp links. There's no way this is going to work with 2.4 or 5 GHz.

Your only choice is to put up towers to get above the houses and get a line of sight
