Mikrotik + Madwifi on WDS

Tue Oct 10, 2006 12:58 am

Anyone have a working example of a Madwifi WDS repeater/AP configuration, working properly when 'peered' with an mikrotik/atheros AP?

I'd like to set up a few simple/cheap WDS repeaters using Atheros radios in OpenWRT compatible boxes - in this case the Netgear WGT634U. I've actually had great results with WDS (with Mikrotik as the peer/AP) using OpenWRT on broadcom radios. Unluckily Broadcom radios have lousy RF performance at best so its still an 'ugly' situation.

Heres the scenario:

If I do it as according to the madwifi handbook, the MT side detects a WDS Station and a WDS AP. Nothing passes across either connection.

If I just configure the AP interface, iwpriv ath0 wds 1, iwpriv ath0 wds_add [mt box's wifi mac] the interface appears identical to how a broadcom or mikrotik/atheros-based WDS repeater shows up, but no data is passed.

I've got a lot of madwifi based clients on our network with good results, but all are straight 'STA' mode (using PPPoE).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
