recording users traffic types

Fri Oct 13, 2006 1:39 pm

Hi All.
I recently downloaded the MikroTik Syslog Daemon and have got it working, but what I really want to do is track the type of traffic the user is generating, i.e HTTP, SMTP, FTP etc. so I can log this and generate a report that shows where the users traffic usage is most going. Would SysLog Daemon help here, OR is there something else I should look at.

THanks, Jeremy

Jeremy, you can look at 'traffic-flow', it will be more informative,

Thanks, I noticed that the doumet mentioned NTop and I did a google search and came up with a few results. It took me ages to get it working because I was not sure of the login for the admin section, but its all go now.

I have been having a play and I have installed it on my local PC and I am seeing traffic for my LOCAL network, but nothing from the MikroTik.
I have set my local PC's IP Adress and left the port as default, but I only see the IP address of the MikroTiK.

How do set this up so I can monitor address ON the MikroTik, i.e. ones assigned via DHCP etc.etc.

Jeremy
