Multiple Mikrotiks - How to make only one mikrotik handle all traffic

Mon Nov 07, 2016 5:42 pm

Hi,

We put multiple 951s into venues currently with captive portal technology, unfortuntely the way our system has been developed, each AP acts completely independenty and roaming between access points brings up another captive portal authnentication, which is expected behaviour.

We want to do this properly and i am looking for solutions, i believe setting all mikrotiks (minus 1) into bridge mode andn having the main mikrotik acting as a DHCP server and access point this would facilitate this? I also believe meshing, capsman and WDS should allow us to do this.

Ive read alot of documentation and went through some trial and error without success.

To re-iterate, we install 3 / 4 951's into a building and we would like a user to be able to roam between them "correctly" and not be presented with an captive portal screen, what is the easiest way of achieving this?

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

You should be able to set all the 951's into caps mode and then just setup the controller on the main router but put everything onto a bridge interface with the port added to the bridge,
when the cap's clients connect to capsman then it will automatically do the rest (bridging, ssid's and so on)

I tested the roaming on this and it works.
