LDF 5

This morning we have tested the new LDF 5 with an 60cm offset dish and it works quite good but not like an SXT lite AC in the focus of the same offset: we have 5dB less in TX and 2 db less in RX

My thought is that the the difference is made by the chipset, the AC works better than the N.

We can expect LDF 5 AC?

AC offers the possibility of higher throughput due to denser modulations and wider bands, it has nothing to do with radio tx power and rx sensitivity.These parameters will not automatically be better because the chip is AC.

E.g. compare the RB922UAGS-5HPacD with NetMetal5 (RB921UAGS-5SHPacT-NM).

At MCS9 256-QAM 5/6 both boards have same rx sensitivity of -72dbm, however the first has a max tx power of 22dbm or 158mW, whereas the latter can deliver 27dbm or 501mW. That's over three times the power.

Mikrotik had a good 802.11N radio with high power and decent rx sensitivity, the SXT-5HPND. Then they released the LHG5 with a much better antenna but with an inferior radio.

They are likely to do the same thing for the AC board that they will design to *upgrade* the LHG-5 and LDF-5, and that's probably not going to cut it for you. Even though your *wish* would have come true you will be disappointed with the result, so best to be clear in what you are actually requesting!

a 60cm dish should give you better signal than an SXT ac. Make sure to adjust the antenna properly, since this is an offset mount, the beam points upward, basically you would have to tilt the dish downward, to make sure the beam goes straight

That's to be expected. LDF tx dBm is 19 while Rx -75dB, internal antenna gain 9dBi.
SXT5 Lite ac is 25 dBm, Rx -77dB, 16dBi antenna; there you have the differences.

They're different products for different applications. As brochure says, it allows you to save in shipping costs, and also TCO: you can build a 33dB gain system with a 100cm Sat dish + LDF for less or same price of a single SXT 5 Lite ac.

normis: great tip! so you mean offsetting the whole dish instead of playing with the mounting arm (dish mounting hardware allowing)?

We have 4500 client using offset dish + sxt in varius hardware/chipset version. The SXT + offset dish with the N chipset (Atheros 93xx) perform like the LDF so my tought is the difference is made by the AC chipset. In my experience the AC is 10% faster than N in PtMP scenario if you can archive the best modulation. I hope to see soon LDF in AC version.

60cm parabolic antenna alignment must be very precise, we're talking millimetre precision
You MUST do both the precise vertical and horizontal alignment to get best results
most dishes are designed for receiving satellites, which can be trouble for horizontal links, for instance had to mount the dish/offset upside down to obtain horizontal link
I have one LDF5 <-> LDF5 link with 60cm antenna that worked so well I put it on 20MHz bandwidth, 40MHz was just way too more than what I needed
In fact LDF5 with a precisely calibrated antenna delivers so much bandwidth I wish it came with a GbE interface, I was able to test 180+Mbps one way on the wireless with 40MHz channel, 1300m link, in a city crowded with WISPs.

I'll say this again, Mikrotik please consider offering a GbE version of LDF5, please. Or an LDF5 AC with GbE.

Good day,
My experience with an LDF5, I mounted it in a 90Cm dish and it was registered in an AP Rocket M5 with levels of -64 and a rate of 102Mb at a distance of 21 Km, I see a DVr that tego with 4 cameras fluid and without conjelations .
Excellent radio.

So if according to the brochure using 100cm offset dish can give up to 33dbi of gain.
How much dbi of antenna gain should we expect with a 60cm dish.
And any smart ways to mount it firmly on a pole of about 10m height.

at which angle must a 60cm dish be pointed to get a straight or 90 degree beam.

Thanks a lot for offering the LDF5 AC. The difference between LDF5 and LDF5 AC is amazing.
Everything the same except LDF5 using 802.11N and LDF5 AC using 802.11AC modulation results in ccq improvement from ~70% to 99-100% !
Amazing.
Using 80MHz channel I'm able to see outdoors ptp links using 60cm antennas getting 250Mbps full duplex tests !
Using 20MHz channel on a quiet channel I can still get 60Mbps full duplex or 110Mbps half duplex ! Awesome !
