Hello everyone,

I have spent my time with mikrotik router boars nowadays. Last days I try to add external antenna to the my routerboard ( RB951Ui-2ND ) but I can not find any information about this.

Is there any possibility to add external antenna for RB951Ui-2ND ?? there are connections for external antennas on board but when I connect to the enxternal antennas to the board it behaves strangly, and also I can not find any mod configuration for external antenna in the winbox ??

Thanks much...

1. You can not add external antennas. It is impossible.
2. Why would you? This device already provides better coverage than any similar device from other brands.

I put this board in metalic box. Then I need antenna from outside the box.

Why I can not add external antennas ? There are input components on the board for external antennas.

it possible to add external antennas to the RB951Ui-2HnD board. What is the difference ?

This device is more suited to use as is. We have plenty of products for DIY projects. Just use RB922 or other device that has connectors for antennas. You would not have to solder, potentially making it even worse.

For this board can you send me an example configuration for external antennas ? I mean routerOS ?

RouterOS has no support for external antennas on RB951, like I said.

Okey I understand. I just need an example of configuration for supported any boards ? I will be focused on routerboards which is supported external anntennas : )

Can you give me any link for example cofiguration or tutorial?

I am really curios about that ıf we can not use the external antennas with RB951 series then why there are input components for external antennas ?

I just really blank right now.

Those are not connectors that you see inside the case. They are factory test points.

I have a problem with dimensions. There is any routerboard, which dimesions are same like the RB951ui , supports external antennas ?

your offered routerboards dimensions are different then the RB951ui boards ?

They are smaller. Only 10x10CM: https://routerboard.com/RB912UAG-5HPnD

Okey one more question...

I need a mikrotik board which has abilities;

-supported external antennas
-b/g/n/ac compability
-mesh with full configurable routerOS
- -40 +70 degree working condition
- working voltage 24 V DC

Can you help me to find the board ?

İt has one ethernet port, is there any board which has 5 ethernet or more than one ethernet port , and includes all above.. ??

or more than one ethernet port
You can plug S-RJ01 into an SFP cage of the RB922UAGS-5HPacD to get a second 1G Ethernet port.

this has 5 port. Can we add antenna to the this ? What is third chain antenna ?

Can we add two MIMO antenna to the this board ?

Thanks for your kind responses ...

You cannot add antennas to that either. Please remember, the home units can't be disassembled and customized. We have "RouterBOARD" PCB series for custom builds. RB953, RB922 and similar. I already pointed this out several times.

is there another mikrotik we could use that would be able to be an antenna ? for an AP..

like making a hotspot

Is there any plan MikroTik build a RouterBOARD with the features below;
-Minimum three Ethernet interfaces.
-One PoE-in and two PoE-out "Active/Passive."
-Dual-band wireless "2.4GHz and/or 5GHz."
-mini-PCI express for LTE
-USB/SmartCard
-Serial port "optional."

1. It's not impossible, many people have done it successfully. It's just relatively difficult, will void the warranty and could damage the device. But it's up to the owner of the device to decide that.
2. If we had unlimited budget then yes, but in my case I have an RB751 and an RB951 and need an external antenna to go on top of a shed. The 751 has an external antenna port but is definitely too slow with ROS 6.49.6. This isn't the sort of project I'm willing to buy a new device for. I got these devices for $16 each.

IIRC from another thread, your use case is flawed because you wanted to use one port for "mast antenna" and the other for "indoor antenna". Which doesn't play well, both ports are intended to cover more or less same area and be used for same purpose (either PtP or AP), because both ports are part of same WiFi radio and intended for 2x2 MIMO (dual-chain) operation.
I know it requires larger budget, but in your case you'd need another (outdoor-graded) device to place on top of shed, something like Groove52 would be fine and not too expensive (considering that decent outdoor antenna costs some money as well). And there are numerous other (slightly more expensive) models available which fit the use case perfectly.

That is a good question. I did ask this previously in another thread and sort of got an answer that it would work ok. In that case I had 1 yagi and one regular antenna. That has been working for 18 months although not for any major data transfer, just for taking short readings from IOT devices. I do want to use this other one for regular internet access. I presumed the fact the 751 has a single external port kind of meant it was ok but it will be interesting to see. It will be a more extreme case with decent amounts of traffic going through each antenna.

something like Groove52
I was considering this one also as I don't need 5GHz but this will be battery/solar powered so I would prefer to use 1 device. I can potentially get around the 1 indoor, 1 outdoor antenna idea with some creative mounting, eg inside a plastic box above a plastic roofing sheet. :-)
https://mikrotik.com/product/sxtsq_lite2

As a side note I think this could be a good product idea, an AP that is designed for sheds with 1 indoor and 1 outdoor antenna (or multiple indoor outdoor antennas). I have 6 locations I could use that with. The product could be designed so you drill a hole in the roof of a certain size, push the antenna through and that's it mounted. :-)

Well, this kind of setup doesn't "work OK", it rather "works somehow". In some use cases (such as your low throughput) that's enough, in some use cases (some decent performance required) it isn't enough. As always, when wandering into cutting edge cases, one is usually on his own to experiment  Prior knowledge helps somehow, but it's not a paramount.
