Mikrotik - how to calc the right device to our project

Fri Feb 03, 2017 3:42 pm

Hi,

we will start a ISP using fibernetworks - aproximatelly 1024 users/ONUs connected to the main OLT, some of they will be connected throught WIFI hotspot. The CCR 1036 could handle this traffic? How to calc? Should we use another one specific for Wifi HotSpot?

tks,

Renato

Hello Renato,

The answer is: It depends...

Really, there is no such a magic number to calculate that, you need to achieve at least an average amount of rules to be applied in your routing session (routing/filtering/firewalling/queuing). The CCR-1036 is a very powerful device, I heard a lot of good feedbacks about it, like handling about 2K+ PPPoE sessions. But I told you: It depends. Imagine all those PPPoE sessions using a lot of resources at the same time?

Hotspot is a big resource eater, but from my knowledge it should support with no problems, keeping in mind that not every customer (from your total of 1K) will be logging on the hotspot page at the same time and using all available network, etc..

Regards,
