Mikrotik in enterprise company

Thu Mar 23, 2017 6:18 pm

Regards to all,

I'd like to hear your experiences on the implementation mikrotik routers in large companies or public institutions.

I work in a public company, and still I'm not supposed leave the router in the network core. When talking about the core network mean the CCR series routers and switches of mikrotik. In our network we have only Cisco networking equipment. i still have the courage to introduce mikrotika the network, but I'm interested in your experience in the implementation of this software in large firms.
Whether you use them in the core network? in data centers, and what are your experiences.
Thank you in advance for every answer and experience.

what does this mean?

I'm not really sure what you are asking - but I use Mikrotik for everything except for my voice PRI's. I use them in each office and my datacenter. I have a total of 31 CCR1016's and 6 CCR1032.

Hello,
We are a consulting company from Turkey. We have customers from very different sectors, banks, global electronics manufacturers, universities, ISPs, etc...

We use MikroTik routers with all of them. We use it mainly as firewall and hotspot. We use CAPsMAN as WiFi controller.
In a university, we deployed a hotspot for 4000 online users. So, yes we use it in enterprise environments.

Thanks okazdal for this information.

I am in the company responisble for the purchase and deployment of the device, and I was not sure how it works in a demanding environment and in an environment where some critical work processes must always work, or with very little interruption. And because that I wanted to hear another person's experience in this.

Is the MIKROTIK or their distributors can be made more favorable guarantee from the standard 2 or 3 years. For example, delivery of spare part next business day or faster.

What do you call large companies or public institutions?

To me, a large company has 10-gig internal networks everywhere and several hundred work stations and large budgets. In this case I would use Cisco for all core equipment and only consider other brands on network equipment for remote edge areas.

If you are calling a large company an organization which averages less than 100 meg sustained network traffic and less than 50 work stations, and yearly network budget that is tight, then Mikrotik can be a decent, reliable solution.

For remote branch offices, Mikrotik could be justified as a possible better solution than Cisco.

However, in all environments, I would choose Mikrotik for any type of WiFi and fight to defend my decision no matter what.

FYI - We own well over a thousand Mikrotiks .... So I am speaking from experience.

I don't believe that they will change the warranty. However, with the very low price, I recommend ordering a few spare units to keep on hand.
I have only had 1 MikroTik fail - a LHC5 - but I believe that was because it was not grounded.

Well, I'm in the U.S.and have a north east regional bank where I maintain their voip network between 30 branches, all using rb1100's, and another client that is a nation wide mortgage lender, where I've got 60 rb1100's handling data and sip trunking and 2 ccr's in the main data center, vrrp, and 1 gig pipe.

Both have been running for years.

I am using Mikrotik for whole our company.
I have already 4pcs ccr1072, about 5pcs ccr1036, many many CRS switches with different numbers of ports and speeds.
Also all wireless solutions (Hundreds of pcs) are builded on mikrotik. All our warehouses using CAPsMAN technology and Mikrotik radios. All our "backbone networks" using 10Gbps optical SFP mikrotik modules/switches/routers.

After almost eight yeasr of using I have absoluite NO complain, absolute no one bad piece of hardware failure. I am so happy with mikrotik.
Of course, there is some space for improvement (roaming standards for wifi clients and cap, better and stronger sctipting posibilities, NBD warranty and support for my extra money, which I am like to pay and so on..), BUT Mikrotik is awesome.

I also wish "more enterprise" hw and sw for more money, price is not problem I bealive. I also thing there is right time to do some more expensive hardware and support for achievement some higher level of customers.
