Question about speed between switches

Sun Apr 02, 2017 1:03 pm

Hello, i have Mikrotik 1100 router.
On this router, there are 2 switches.

Now i want to know, whats the speed between this switches? because i have 2 server on switch 1, and my synology nas with bonding (3UTP) on switch 2.
But if the switches communication is maximum 1GBit, i dont use the maximum bonding configuration.

tnx for helping / explenation.

PS, i installed the mikrotik with Master port 2 (3,4,5) and masterport 6 (7,8,9,10) .
is this the best configuration for my setting/purpose? (purpose: 2 proxmox servers with VMs, storage on NAS SSD)

https://i.mt.lv/routerboard/files/Block-RB1100AHx2.pdf

I would put the NAS on ports 11-12-13. And each server on different switches.
The one with the lower speed requirements on the same switch with the uplink.

Or better yet, get a CCR-1009-1C-7G-1S where it doesn't matter since there are no switch chips.

Wow! tnx for the explenation and link to the file. Now i understand why port 11, 12 and 13 are 'bypass'.
so, it would be better to buy a 'CCR1009_7G_1C_1Splus'?

"No switch-chip - the device now features only fully independent Ethernet ports each with a direct connection to the CPU, allowing to overcome previous shared 1Gbit limitation from switch-chip ports and utilize full potential of CPU processing power on those ports. "

great :)

When you don't have routing requirements between the servers and NAS it would be easier to just buy a separate
switch and put it between those.

That depends on your requirements and what you call "cheap".
Probably a dumb wirespeed switch could work fine but when you want link aggregation it has to be a simple managable switch.

The synology nas has link aggregration ;)
But i just ordered the ccr 1009 :)
Because
-i dont want speed losing.
-Redundant power

Yes the CCR1009 is a nice box, I use one at work (the previous model) and I really like it.
