Accessing Public WiFi Landing Page?

Mon May 15, 2017 3:54 am

Greetings all,

I'm using a Metal 52ac mounted externally on an RV roof to connect to public WiFi networks. The Metal is connected via an Ethernet cable to a hAP ac Lite located inside our RV where we have a WiFI LAN. I normally use Quick Set in CPE mode in the Metal to connect to the public WiFI networks.

Many of these public WiFi networks feature a web landing page which requires user confirmation before WAN access is granted. The problem I'm having is that even though the Metal connects to the public WiFi network just fine, I can't figure out how to get to the public WiFi's landing page in a web browser on my RV's LAN. As a result, I can't get access to the Internet through the public WiFi network.

If I connect to the same public WiFi network directly with say my iPhone or iPad, the landing page automatically pops up immediately after making the connection.

Any pointers on how I can fix this are most appreciated.

John

Normally the login page should display in your laptop/ipad even if the connection is through a Groove.
If that doesn't happen, we need more information. Ie. what specifically happens when you open http://neverssl.com (this page specifically!) in your laptop, when connected to the Groove, which is connected to this wifi

Hi Normis,

Thanks for the quick reply.

I think I just stumbled upon the cause of this problem...

I found the "Allow Remote Requests" button was NOT checked in the Metal 52 ac's DNS settings. Once that was checked, I immediately got the public WiFi network's landing page. Prior to doing that, I couldn't access http://neverssl.com but now can.

Best regards,

John
