CHR not loading

Mon Oct 02, 2017 10:31 am

Hello.

We use Proxmox (KVM). 3 month all well work, but after reboot CHR (License P1) not load.

Reboot, migrate to other server - CHR not load. Convert CHR raw image to VDI and run on VirtualBox - not load.

Version CHR 6.40.2.

We install new CHR and restore backup. But this is very very bad!

What is this??? What is happening? Is bug? How fixed it??

Thx.

I have this problem too. I upgrade ROS and reboot system, then i only see Loading......Reboot.....Loading.....Reboot again and again.
Then I try upgrade another VM (test VM), and nothing - all allright.
How i can solve this problem in future?

Hello. What kind of CPU virtualization you uses (kvm32, host passthrough)?

I don't know about Proxmox or QEMU but I do know that on VMware ESXi you can avoid this problem by using SCSI instead of IDE disk.
There is now a ready made .ova file with SCSI disk available, that makes it a lot easier to get running. Before that you needed to convert
the .vmdk file before installation. Search on the forum.

Having the same issue. In case of almost any unexpected termination CHR doesn't boot again with "no system package found" error message and followed kernel panic.

I found it during virtualization platform HA tests as a side effect: after host power-off I wasn't able to start CHR again on another host. Tried to reproduce this again and yes, it fails; just try to kill qemu-system process and then start it again. Almost all tries were leading to failure.

Is there any way to fix this? I was intended to use CHR as cloud routers for a medium-sized virtualization cluster but if it can't survive hardware failure - it can't be more than a geek's toy.

Thanks!

Details:
OpenNebula (KVM + ceph storage backend, virtio-blk driver)
CHR 6.40.4

Have to add that the problem wasn't in CHR. Though it was very unexpected but the main issue was in virtualization platform \ storage cluster settings.
