Point to Point

Wed Oct 18, 2017 2:19 am

Is anyone getting more than 200 meg over an 80 MHz Point to Point link? We are running a number of NV2 backhauls and are starting to outgrow them. I hate changing out the links for other brands and these have all been rock solid. We are using Netmetals and RB921's/RB922's. All links are in bridge/wds mode. All signals are better than -50 and CCQ's are typically in the 90's although a couple are in the 70's. We have tried every firmware including the most current. What are others doing? The link says it has a TX rate of 650Mbps-80MHz, yet we are not getting even half that. Is there a secret i have missed or do i have just need to drop the cash for the license links or other brands of radio?

Frustrated,

Tommy

Hi Tommy,

Have you tried 802.11 protocol instead of NV2 for the backhauls ?

I have found this can outperform NV2 in a P2P situation - let me know if it helps :-)

Set station end protocol to "nv2-nstreme-802.11" first then change the bridge end to 802.11 for the test.

Don't forget to create a wireless security profile that matches at both ends as NV2 does not use the 802.11 security profile (sorry if you knew that already).

Regards,

Stuart

Tried that to begin with. No improvement. We have ordered a licensed link so this will be a thing of the past. However, on other links, it would be nice to squeeze 400+ meg on a PTP 80 MHz. Other brands we deploy will get exactly that on 80 MHz.

I am of the impression no one is getting over 200 meg on a PTP link using Mikrotik gear. Very frustrating. Oh well, at a little over $4k per link I can do 11 GHz.

Perhaps Mikrotik needs to make a PTP mode that all the settings are optimized. I assume we are using the exact same polling and so forth that is used for PTMP. Obviously there are differences because many manufacturers have a PTP mode which changes numerous setting automatically.

I have a WDS PTP Mikrotik link using 20/40/80MHz eeeC using NV2 distance 12km.
Registration: tx/rx signal -48/-47
Registration: Signal-to-Noise: 56
Registration: CCQ 88/85
Registration: at this moment Tx-connection-rate 650Mbps & Rx-connection-rate 650Mbps

It can sustain an error-free 1-way UDP 400-meg btest through the PTP link (in either direction).

I have tested speed differences between PTP nv2 and PTP 802.11 and often find 802.11 is sometimes faster. However, with MTP using two WDS PTP clients, then NV2 appears to work better under loads.
