CCR1072 Performance w Traffic Shaping

Thu Oct 26, 2017 7:02 am

Hi there,

We are currently looking to replace an aged Cisco 7604XVR router that manages our upstream peers and shapes our customer internet connections from our internal IAAS environment. The reason it because it is old, unsupported/no maintenance, and the CPU regularly every day sits almost 100% throughout the day as we have approx. 30 customers all having their internet traffic rate shaped which is obviously quite CPU intensive. Generally they are all shaped to 250Mbps, 40Mbps of which is general IP Transit, the other 200Mbps we put aside specifically for a peering network for things like Azure Express Route and is very rarely used and certainly not to that 200mbps capacity. Outbound to the internet, we have a 200mbps service to one provider, and 1Gbps peering connection to the local IX peering exchange. The 200Mbps gets utilised quite heavily as you would imagine, and the 1Gbps peering probably only around 100mbps most the time. We BGP peer with both, accepting a default route from one an probably a few thousand from the other.

Ive earmarked the CCR1072 as a possible replacement as it almost sounds too good to be true! My question is, in a real life scenario do you think it will be up to this task? I have gone over all the testing and read plenty of reviews but that is nowhere near as valuable as hearing from someone who has successfully used one to this capacity before.

Cheers
Dan
