Netflow packet analysis software for home network

Can anyone recommend software their using that has a web gui interface with graphing preferably? I'm just using this on a home network and most of the solutions are costly and meant for SMB and enterprise not so much for home use. I just want to see what type of traffic is flowing through my network (protocols, etc.). Ntop is ugly and I think I might try PRTG or Kentik but wanted to see what you guys might recommend before making a decision. My home network just consists of an x86 fanless PC as my router (running Mikrotik RouterOS ofc), some unmanaged switches, and a UniFi AP.

Thanks!!

Hi,

I have had success with Elastiflow, although it requires an Elasticsearch cluster that you'll have to size properly for it to work, check here: https://github.com/robcowart/elastiflow

We also use Grafana to plot this data in real time.

Nevertheless anything like this is always going to be costly, doesn't matter if the software is free or not. In this case all the components are free but unless you know about Linux, ElasticSearch and Kibana, you'll end paying either in the form of money to a consultant to do this for you, or in the form of time for you to learn and build it yourself.

PRTG is free up to 100 sensors, and the sensor you'd like to use here is ugly and I don't like it at all.

You say NTOP is ugly, have you tried NTOPng or you're referring to the old NTOP version?
You could also try to use PfSense in your network for firewalling in front of your current router, PfSense has an NTOPng module that's "plug and play" as long as the traffic passes through the firewall.

Nevertheless this is again made for an enterprise environment, I don't know of any software for this that isn't. It's not common for people to request this in home environments.

Thanks! I'm going to give Elastiflow a try. I appreciate you taking the time to respond!

According to the 4 steps of the above article, the installation is complete, you can access, but how to inject the traffic data of mikrotik router into elastiflow? The xxxx.json dashboard file import at the end of the article is invalid. I hope to get help from my friends in the forum.

I do use Splunk to monitor my MikroTik Router. I have not implemented traffic flow (can be done) but du get traffic use from the router using IP accounting.

See link in my signature.

PS Splunk is free to use if you log less than 500MB/day. That should be enough for a very large home net.
