Tower was hit by lightning , lost the lan connection to 3 dynadishes. Is it possible to transfer the license (using the mac address of the defective units) to retrieve the licenses to install on newly purchased replacements?
Be grateful that that's all you lost in a direct lightning strike.
I've had direct lightning strikes where I've burnt up ...
- dozens of ethernet surge supressors
- generator -and- transfer switch
- switches
- tower enviornmental & security system
- dozens of POE power supplies
And the worst of it all is I whitnissed all of the above turn to black smoke during one single lightning strike when I was driving by during a thunder storm.
You can't really do much to prevent direct lighting strikes - however you can have ready-to-go plans for what to do when bad stuff happens.
Note - If the voltage is enough to arc several thousand feet from the sky to your tower , then it can easily get past your lightning rod , jump/melt your surge supressors and fry anything connected by wire in any possible path to earth ground.
