VDSL config please

Thu May 17, 2018 2:47 pm

Hi all.
This is my first post to the Mikrotik forum and I hope to become a regular here. My background is Linux Systems Admin - predominantly using Cisco. When it comes to Miktotik, I will assume I am a beginner. I have a Metanoia VT5311 VDSL SFP and a hAP AC. I am located in New Zealand.

If someone has a VDSL config they can post, this would be much appreciated thanks.

welcome to the forum! I am happy to help but not sure exactly what you require.
I assume you want to know the Mikrotik config when it's connected to the internet through VDSL modem? is the VDAL modem just a bridgte? do you have a static IP?

OK that cleared up things for me.
VDSL in SFP module, nice! but as the other post say, Fibre is popular and we have only few sites still use VDSL

Sorry about the delay in responding. I was not aware this site would not email me a reply notification.
I eventually tracked the problem to the SFP settings. The 5311 requires the port is set as 1Gbps full duplex.

Fibre is popular and we have only few sites still use VDSL
It is here as well but considering I live in rural New Zealand an hour from the nearest city, I won't complain about 50 down / 20 up Mbps VDSL2.

Quite right. 50/20 is not bad at all, says someone lives 3 miles from nearest local exchange and currently posting via ADSL2..
Sorry I have not been very helpful but hopefully SPF setting information can help someone else that uses the 5311

The 5311 also suppprts ADSL2/2+ though no mention of ADSL1 support-
https://www.metanoia-comm.com/admin/pro ... 19&upid=73

Here in New Zealand, most VDSL (strictly speaking it's VDSL2) connections are deployed from fibre-fed cabinets. But ours is a very small rural township (around 70 houses) so is fed from an ISAM mounted in the old exchange building.
Our cable run from exchange to demarcation on the side of our place is around 370m, so at this distance we get a 17A profile. Longer cable runs typically get an 8B profile - to around 1km - after which ADSL2+ becomes the option.

The 5311 SFP gets warm during operation and there is no line stats available via any method I am aware of. Switching from an Cisco 887VA router, I noticed the speed has decreased but so has the latency. I have lost a few Mbps and gained 3ms improvement. My ISP (InspireNet) is in the nearest city which is about 80km away. Latency time to them is upper-5 to 6ms ICMP RTT.

Chorus (Our network provider) is presently doing a large scale deployment of G.vector and our ISAM line cards were upgraded a few days ago to support this. I expect they will turn it on within the next couple of weeks and I will report the results back to the forum.

My business has a reseller account with the distributor of the 5311 so would be able to supply it to anyone who is having issues obtaining this item.
