wAP LTE kit - phenomenally bad performance

My wAP LTE kit, with mANT LTE 5o or internal antennas, has phenomenally bad speed performance, never above 10 Mbps when anything else (e.g. phone) tests around 40 Mbps. For example I get between 1 Mbps and 4 Mbps with the following condition:

pin-status: no password required
functionality: full
manufacturer: "MikroTik"
model: "R11e-LTE"
revision: "MikroTik_CP_2.160.000_v008"
current-operator: 20205
lac: 6014
current-cellid: 3354917
access-technology: 3G HSDPS & HSUPA
session-uptime: 21m31s
imei: xxxxxxxxx
imsi: xxxxxxxxxxxx
earfcn: 10614 (DL freq 2122.8Mhz)
rssi: -65dBm

1. Please advise what you need me to upload to get an opinion on the issue
2. My main requirement versus a USB or other small device is range, i.e. I need performance at geographical locations where other devices cannot perform because of low signal. Can I expect this or not? (please advise what info you may need to answer this)

Thank you.

3G HSDPS & HSUPA - your phones are also in 3g/H+ mode?

my phone does 4g 50+download and 15+ upload at same location, same provider, different SIM

You can forget about it, alot of users including me already complained about it, dont bother with this device if u expect any normal speeds, its just terrible.

Comparing apples to oranges. Remember limitations of CAT4 LTE modems.

anyway if you cant lock to LTE then your speeds will suffer.

Ok, understood... My main concern is range. Can I expect the cat4 modem to perform (slower) at a long range?

All other things equal, would the cat4 or cat6 modem give longer range from mast?

in case this is useful:

when i scan from LTE Scanner I get the same entry twice, i.e. same network, signal and other details in two separate entries, both marked as C (current)

Different provider and up to 4g, acceptable speeds but about half than my Samsung phone (C9 Pro). Waiting on a 3rd party modem, will update you all...

Hi dc2,

I have recently posted about the same problem as you with ref to the WAP LTE, a Huawei 4G/TP Link Router can pull higher speeds through both o2 & EE connections using an external Solwise antenna. I have also just got the new SXT LTE unit and run a load of tests back to back with the WPA LTE. In the tests i disabled GSM & 3G and only had LTE ticked

Results are:
SXT vs WAP.pdf
I have tried EE on all the frequencies they use and found from where i am that band 20 is the best. O2 only use band 20 but are hugely better in terms of speed. I would say that the SXT + HAP lite is on a par with a branded 4G router and external antenna(it costs the same) plus it has the advantage of a lot more options for configuration and POE which will make installation a lot easier.

Joe.

@ninja365:

thanks for the update, I am also looking into:

a. getting a Cat6 mPCIE to stick in the wAP -R
b. getting the new SXT LTE kit,

I will post here or in a related new thread. reverting...

Hello, are there any Cat6 LTE mPCIE cards fully supported by RouterOS 6.* already? (as far as i know, some are working using PPP method(slow))
https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Supporte ... and_modems

Till ROS version 7.0 i think it is worth taking a look at Zyxel LTE7460-M608-EU01V2F , if the speed ir really important.

dc2, try to lock the modem to use only LTE network mode.

You use Mikrotik on HSDPA and your phone at 4G and you are waiting the same speed?

We are past that, new sim cards from new provider and up to 4g now on both devices...

Still performance is a bit lacking. Cat4 modem is what it is and I am waiting for a Cat6 modem to test with.

Also have a DIY idea that I may go with and post here... Regards

I did, it works decently but not great, I guess the different modem Cat is the factor here (signal metrics on the WAP LTE are pretty good)

This is good to know dc2. Did you have any difficulty at all installing CAT6 modem? And which one did you use?

Thanks,

Rob

I did it with Quectel EP06-E, no difficulty at all, just follow along the suggestions on the Mikrotik wiki, let me know if you get stuck...

Same here, I can't believe how it is possible...
wAP LTE kit (ROS 6.42.7) - ping 15ms , Download - 15.5Mbps, Upload - 10.93Mbps.
Huawei E3372 - ping 12ms, Download - 27.5Mbps, Upload - 27Mbps

Both devices are placed on exactly the same place on my desk.
I've the feeling that antennas on wAP or sensitivity are not quite OK, what could be the reason ?
Do someone try to replace RB11E with another LTE card ?

Yeah could someone propose tested CAT6 modem fot that device?

Another test, from different location (with better LTE covarage - SINR 24db/CQI-15).

wAP LTE kit (ROS 6.42.7) - ping 13ms , Download - 70.95Mbps, Upload - 24.73Mbps. (LAN connection)
wAP LTE kit (ROS 6.42.7) - ping 14ms , Download - 61.7Mbps, Upload - 24.07Mbps. (WiFi connection)
Huawei E3372 - ping 14ms, Download - 84.1Mbps, Upload - 31.64Mbps

I'm wondering what can be the reasong why R11E (LTE CAT4) can't reeach speed of E3372 (LTE CAT4)?

Do someone manage to reach more than 75Mbps/30Mbps with wAP LTE Kit ?

Can you post information about LTE conditions (RSRP, RSRQ, SINR, CQI) as reported by Huawei E3372?

Just FYI: 15MHz LTE carrier should allow something like 105/50 Mbps. CAT4 limits that to 100/50 Mbps. Both bps figures are true for "normal" LTE, whithout LTE-A features (such as 256QAM modulation in DL and 64QAM in UL) which are not supported by CAT-4 devices anyhow.
