Powering a two device with hAP ac

Fri Jul 27, 2018 12:35 pm

As the title says, I would like to power two SXTs with PoE ETH5 port on hAP ac.

I will connect ETH5 on hAP ac directly to SXT LTE Kit, and then in line from PoE out on SXT LTE Kit to SXT2.

The power adapter which powers hAP ac is original 24V 1.2A. Will this adapter power all three devices?

Additional question: Can I power SXT LTE Kit and SXT2 with one 24V 0.8A adapter?

Thank you very much for all the answers!

Specification of SXT LTE kit says that power consumption is 6W. Likewise SXT2 has rated power consumption of 11W. Together that's 17W. With 24V power supply this means slightly more than 0.7A. Power adapter rated 24V 0.8A in theory should suffice.

However: certain products state maximum PoE output current to be 0.5A while I haven't seen any such statement about PoE in max current. I guess it is safe to assume that 0.5A applies as well. Meaning that 0.7A of combined consumption is too much for SXT LTE kit input PoE. Solution would be to go with higher voltage ... but SXT2 can only take up to 30V and even with that voltage, 17W still means current higher than 500mA . And this part also applies to PoE out on hAP ac.

So, in short: if it was my gear, I wouldn't do it. Powering either SXT off PoE out of hAP ac is fine (single SXT consumes less than 0.5A @24V), but not combined. In any case make sure you're using power jack on hAP ac, not PoE in.

Thank you!

I decided to go with powered hAP ac with power jack and to PoE adapter 0.8A 24V to power SXT + SXT LTE Kit.

I will try and report if this works! ;)

Thank you
