Can't pass traffic from VLAN over L2TP site to site connection

Hey all,
I'm having a difficult time updating a customer's router to use a L2TP connection for their phones to connect with our phone server across town.
I can get it to work with one of my template configurations but I need to get it working on a customer's current configuration.
I have the L2TP set up and its staying connected.
The phones are on VLAN 100
As soon as I add the route to our phone server (which uses internal IP 10.201.x.x) and route it over the L2TP connection, I loose connection from phone to server.
If I use a public IP address for our phone server and route it normal out eth1 it works.
Where should I begin to look for troubleshooting this problem?
