APC UPS not detecting?

We have some APC SMX750I units out there connected with the included console cables to MikroTik CCR routers. I'm 99% sure I tested the connectivity in the lab before we deployed them to make sure they work and they did. However when we installed them they didn't work, they weren't detected

I'm going back to set them up now but I just cannot get them to work. We are using the console cable that came with the UPS units. I've disabled console on serial0, then added UPS on serial0 and it doesn't detect it, just stays red with an exclamation mark. Tried disabling it, then changing baud rate to various values and re-enabling, same thing it just goes red with an exclamation mark and never detects the UPS

What am I doing wrong? Is there anything else that needs to be done?

I have the same problem with APC SMT750I via USB. Mikrotik detects it as USB-device
admin@vol] /system ups> /sys resource usb print detail
1 device="1-1" vendor="American Power Conversion " name="Smart-UPS 750 FW:UPS 09.4 / ID=18"
serial-number="3S1416X01315 " vendor-id="0x051d" device-id="0x0003" speed="12" usb-version=" 2.00"

admin@vol] /system ups> p
Flags: X - disabled, I - invalid
0 name="apc" port=usbhid1 offline-time=0s min-runtime=never alarm-setting=immediate
serial="3S1416X01315"

Tried to set check-capabilities=no with no success.

admin@vol] /system ups> monitor 0
runtime-left: 1h28m

I seem to have a similar problem. my APC SmartUPS 1500 is connected via USB to the USB-port oif a CRS109-8G-1S-2HnD-IN. Interestingly the UPS is properly and fully been identified just by the USB-port of the mikrotik as
Device: 1-1
Vendor: American Power Conversion
Name: Smart-UPS 1500 FW:COM 02.1 / UPS.05.I
Serial Number: AS1119214533
Vendor ID: 0x051d
Device ID: 0x0003
Speed: 12
USB Version: 2.00
Ports: 0

However the actual USB-package only reports the "Serial Number" (within the Modeal Tab) and the "Run Time Left" within the (Status tab). And the name I gave the USP-device is preceeded by a red exclamation mark.

https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:System/UPS was not of any additional help as it just states APC must support “smart” signalling over serial RS232 or USB connection.

What is it, than I am missing?

Or should I better connect the UPS to the Mikrotik by means of a plain serial cable? Is someone willing to share the pinout of such cable with me? TIA

No answer for you, except I do have the exactly same problem with a APC SmartUPS 1500. I might give a direct serial connection a try. Someone willing to share the required cable pinout with me?

Hello there,

I am facing a similar issue.
hAP ac2 with an APC Back-UPS ES 700

Router detects UPS via system->resources->usb ports BUT in system->ports there is no port added HENCE system->ups->+->port is in RED and unknown AND I am unable to add UPS.

Can anyone shed any light?
I could use this to gracefully shutdown any/all network devices.

P.S. Linux (Ubuntu) recognizes APC UPSes with the help of apcupsd, in general.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apcupsd
"Apcupsd is the free software equivalent of the APC's proprietary software called Powerchute"
"Stable release 3.14.14 (May 31, 2016; 3 years ago)"
Can anyone from Mikrotik draft an official letter to APC and/or to APCUPSD? or NUT?

P.P.S. also there is - N.U.T. - which also supports majority of APC UPSes

I had the same problem after replacing RB493AH to hAP ac2. On the old router was APC Back-UPS ES 700 detected without any problems, but the new one did not see it. Finally I solved it by connecting through an old passive usb switch. It is not an ideal solution, but perhaps it will help someone :D
