Hap ac & poor performance in 2.4GHz and 5GHz

Hi,
What could cause poor wireless performance of hAP AC RB962UiGS-5HacT2HnT? I can achieve only about 20mbit/s download and 40mbit/s upload throughput. Hap AC is managed from a capsman. Could it cause problems? I have tested performance with Macbook pro, Macbook air and different android devices. Distance from AP doesn't matter, result is always same. Is there something I could check? Could it be device failure?

Caps Controller is on HAP ac too?

No, CAPSMAN is on a CRS125 which is my internet gateway and router between VLANs. Is that a problem?

Try local forwarding

If I turn local forwarding on, I will lost network connection completely.

For local forwarding to work you got to setup your L2 network accordingly and configure the bridge to drop the traffic on the CAP.
Without local forwarding all your traffic will be tunneled (possibly encrypted) to the CapsMan, that's not a good idea on a device with low CPU power.

Well, my internet connection is on CAPSMAN device so it will in any case forward to that same switch.
Even if the problem would be in CAPSMAN and low cpu power how could uplink throughput be twice as downlink?

Routing and Capsman Controller on such lower power switch is no good idea!

Ok. I will try without capsman

Tried without capsman and results are same. With 2.4GHz troughput down 2mbit/s up 10mbit/s. Wiht 5GHz down 20mbit/s up 40mbit/s. Is my hap ac faulty?

What firmware version are you using?

Latesta and greatest released version v6.43.4. Should I try some other version? Is there known issues with this one?

Hi,
Have you also tried upgrading routerboard firmware under System > Routerboard > Upgrade?
You might also want to check the wireless encryption method ie. aes or tkip. It is better to use aes ccm only as tkip is slower.

Routerboard has latest version also and I'm using only aes ccm.

Nothing wrong in my config? Then it must be failure in device...

I bought a new one and problem exists. So there were no failure in hardware.

If you use CAPSMAN and do NOT use local-forwarding, ALL traffic will need to be encrypted over a tunnel from the AP to the CAP.
This wil hav huge impact on performance !!!
If you use the hAP AC in stand-alone mode it will perform as designed.
if you use ANY AP with CAPSMAN without local-forwarding you need a CAP device with lots of cpu power ... a CRS125 does NOT have a powerfull cpu .. it is a switch !!!
Use a more powerfull MT and you will see better performance

After further investigation, performance is poor when using CAPSMAN - and especially on downstream. Upstream is quite ok.

Uh.. Enabling local forwarding in datapath did the trick and now I can achieve reasonable performance! Thanks!
