Weirdness with some website for PPPoE clients only

Thu Mar 15, 2007 3:15 am

We have started to see some peculiarities since updating to 2.9.40. We had been running most of our network on 2.8 and it was working fine, but for compatibility and standards we updated all 82 APs.

Since then we are experiencing PPPoE customers having a difficult time with some websites, many of them common sites. For instance a customer could not access msn.com. The page would 'go to sleep' rather than perform a 404 error. With the only change being converting them to a 'straight' wireless ethernet connection they can visit all sites without issue.

In some cases, turning off MSS modification in the ppp profile would fix some customers and some sites, but not all.

We have other customers who are trying to access a specific site, and they get there just fine. But when the connection switches over to SSL as they log in to this site, the connection will go to sleep and again do so with no 404 or timeout error. It simply dies.

There seems to be differences in PPPoE between the old 2.8 OS version and the new 2.9 but I can't figure out what. Has anyone else seen this?

We've had similar issues and I tried the MTU suggestion but it didn't seem to resolve the customers' problem. Its rather strange because we don't have any firewall rules preventing access to certain sites or anything.

Any other thoughts?
