Hi,

I would like to know whether anyone managed to connect UVC-G3 (non-AF) cameras or any other Passive PoE-in capable device by Ubiquiti to CRS328-24P-4S+RM or any other Passive PoE-out capable device by MikroTik. Are Passive PoE technologies used by MikroTik and Ubiquiti intercompatible?

To be more precise, it's written in the spec (https://i.mt.lv/cdn/rb_files/CR328-24P- ... 104932.pdf) that CRS328-24P-4S+RM supports 26V Passive PoE (supposedly, 13W and 0.5A). At the same time, it's written in the spec (https://secure.ubiquitishop.com.au/file ... g3_qsg.pdf) that UVC-G3 supports 24V Passive PoE (11-12W and 0.5A). The current parameters seem ok (24-26V and 0.5A), but I'm not sure how this power is actually delivered (which wires are used, polarity, etc).

Hi, can‘t speak for the CRS328 but I am powering a UBNT G3 Dome Camera, a UAP-AC-LR and a UAP-AC-M by a hEX-POE (RB960PGS). No Problems so far since 6 months.

Thank you for sharing your experience! I guess you use 802.3af/A PoE (Pairs 1, 2+; 3, 6 Return) which is supported by all the devices you mentioned and preferred over the passive option. As per the specs, your Ubiquiti devices also support 24V Passive PoE (Pairs 4, 5+; 7, 8 Return). As far as hEX-POE (RB960PGS) is concerned, it's stipulated here (https://mikrotik.com/product/RB960PGS#f ... ifications) that the device supports both passive and 802.3af PoE output, but there is no clear information on Passive PoE support in the spec (https://i.mt.lv/cdn/rb_files/hEX__poe-170320141427.pdf). Could you please check whether you actually use passive or 802.3af/A mode?

Hi, it‘s passive mode. In the hEX the POE is „forced-on“. All of my devices Support 24V passive POE. And the hEX POE comes with a 24V power source.

BTW, I found in the wiki (https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:PoE-Out): MikroTik uses RJ45 mode B pinout for power distribution over spare pairs, where the PoE is passed trough pins 4,5 (+) and 7,8 (-). This seems to be exactly the same pinout Ubiquiti uses for their devices.

MT has two different Passive modes; an older one for up to 100 Mbps links used spare pairs, iirc. For the newer version supporting 1 Gbps, all pairs are used for transmission, so the power is coupled, though I don't know how or on which pairs exactly. Be sure you're not relying on the old spec. Even the y-cable injectors are different models.

I use G3's connected to a CRS328, works fine with no problems. I changed from a UniFi 8 port switch last week and to be honest didn't even remember the G3's are 24v only. I've been really impressed with the CRS328 so far.
