Make sure the flash module hasn't worked free of the socket far enough to not make a connection. If that isn't it, then it sounds like the flash has gone bad. You'll have to buy a new flash and relicense the board.

I have replaced flash, still same issue. Any other ideas?

And the flash had a bootable copy of RouterOS on it already?

Did the board take a static or electrical hit of somekind?

If the flash had a bootable image on it, then it's sounding like the IDE interface on the RB230 has gone bad. Those boards were becoming special order items on their way to being discontinued completely the last time I heard, and if you're in the US, it'll cost you a fortune just to ship it back to MT for repair, plus the cost of the repair. It might be time to consider upgrading to a 532 if you can.

Yup, IDE gone bad on Board. Kind sucks since it was only 2 years old.

It's out of warranty then so you'd have to pay shipping and the cost to repair it. Unless you really need those PCMCIA ports, replacing it with a newer model should be cheaper than repairing it or buying a new one, unless you get lucky and find one on eBay/etc.

I've always liked the RB230's, the RB5XX's dropped features that were really handy. I always liked being able to check the temp 30 miles away from our NOC by looking at the temp graphs of our AP's. :)

yes, make sure jumpers are correctly set, and that BIOS is correctly configured for boot device and ATA mode:
