Traffic shaping pppoe sessions

Thu Apr 19, 2007 6:32 pm

Does mikrotik have the ability to queue or traffic shape pppoe sessions terminated from a core device (Redback) not by mikrotik? I understand that some appliances cannot decipher pppoe packets because of it's encapsulation. Can mikrotik do this? Any help is appreciated.

I *really* need to ba able to shape PPPoE at the bridge level - but every version of MT to date has not been able to do this. As far as I underatand, you cannot do much with bridged non-ip traffic, eg PPPoE passing through. The solution is to shape at the box where you terminate PPPoE sessions, but I have several examples where I just need to shape at a downstream bridge.

Is this ever going to be implimented in MT or is this a fundamental limitation of the O/S that MT is built on ?
