100 Mbps download limit on CRS109-8G-1S-2HnD

Hi All,

I have CRS109-8G-1S-2HnD connected to a router in bridge mode provided by my ISP. The Mikrotik router has a (what I think) basic setup. I created a WAN port on the Mikrotik which is connected to my ISP modem. I created LAN ports which are connected to my computers and my laptop. With this setup I'm able to get 100 Mbps download and 40 Mpbs upload speed with a internet speedtest.

Then when I take the cable from the WAN port on the Mikrotik and put it directly in my laptop the same speedtest gives these results: 500 Mbps download and 40 Mbps upload.

It looks like something in the Mikrotik is causing a bottleneck for the internet download speed. Just wondering if this could be the firewall & NAT and this is just the max. the CRS109-8G-1S-2HnD can do or it's something in the configuration that can be removed with some tweaking.

I looked at the performance specs of the CRS109-8G-1S-2HnD but could not figure out if this issue is caused by known reported limitations. If it does then I don't need to dive into the technical configuration and I can just buy me a new Mikrotik router without this limitation. Would be great if somebody can explain a bit to me.

Thanks in advance!

It's a switch with some L3 capability, not a router.
It won't be able to route 500mbps in real world use.

I agree that it is a switch really, but this device has the same specs as the 2011 and with 2011 in a home / office environment I could reach ~800Mb/s downloads and would think this device should be capable of the same

NO, some resources used to manage switch chip some between 10-20% of CPU in some cases

DO not use switch as a router, use it as a switch, that means Bridge with hardware offload-acceleration

Hi All, I've also used an old RB750GL and connected it to my ISP router. I gave it a more or less similar but cleaner configuration than I have on my CRS109-8G-1S-2HnD. I also configured fasttrack. This device was capable of delivering 500 Mbps download speed. So I expect it's either the fasttrack that I need to enable on the CRS109-8G-1S-2HnD or some misconfiguration that I need to find and eliminate. I will post more details when I have re-configured the CRS109-8G-1S-2HnD.
