If anyone knows...

Can I have a Windows PC that is connected to a wifi pass internet to a mikrotik router through an Ethernet cable?

The M.T. router is not going to be able to receive a LAN I.P. from the router, only the the PC will.

Surely you can...if you create a bridge connection on your PC. But that would require both your PC and the MikroTik running.

Not even if you clone the MAC address?

If you mean that Windows PC would have the role of router and MT router would be connected behing it as client, then yes, Windows can do it. You can find it it network adapter's properties, it's called something like "internet connection sharing". All I remember about it was that it worked, but it didn't have any sensible configuration.

In 90's, had a US Robotics ISDN modem connected to my PC (Windows 98 SE) and provided my kids with internet using this method. Have not used it since and have no idea what configurations are available now.

@ erlinden you mean create a bridge between the laptop's wifi and it's Ethernet port? Can you please point me to the direction of how to do that? Yes both machines will be running. Also regarding the cloning of MAC address...the router allows specific MAC addresses to connect to it and maybe specific I.P. addresses? I do not know about the I.P. addresses but definitely regarding the MAC addresses. Also if you can point me towards that I would appreciate it very much!

@ Sob I can check into the internet connection sharing thing...if you know will the laptop hand in an I.P. to M.T. if I have enabled (on M.T.) a client DHCP? Also, again if you know, what would be the case with the MAC address since the M.T.'s mac will not be allowed in the modem's settings?

@ CZFan I remember the excitement from changing the dial-up modem, and going from 9600 to next one all the way to 57600 with U.S. Robotics and Diamond Supra I think the last one had something they called as "boost" or something and was able to give you an extra 5% of speed

I assume it's still as bad as it was before. It's from dialup age, before people had dedicated routers. There's no reason to develop it further, because who would even use it today? All I know about now is one person who may be possibly intested.

Honestly, I don't even remember if it does dhcp, but it would be logical and expected if it did. There won't be any problem with mac address, it's router mode, so only the one on outside interface will be visible to upstream router. That's unlike with bridge, which works as switch and all mac addresses are visible (and it doen't work well with standard wifi).

In any case, I recommend to use more standard way if possible, i.e. let the router work as router and PC as client behind it. If it's not possible for some reason (router doesn't have big enough antenna for example), this should work too, but it's nothing to be excited about.
