Can MikroTik RouterOS V2.8 do this

Thu Dec 09, 2004 4:36 am

Here is my scenario:

1100 users with pre assigned username and password arrive at convention center with ther notebook, sit down and plug in to the LAN
open their browsers and get re-directed to a login page before internet access is granted sessions will need time out limits etc. Also i need to limit bandwidth to 64k. Also some users will need a pre-assigned public ip address. Smtp re-direction would be nice.
What would be the minunum hardware requirements for 1100 users and a 45MB T-3

Thank you.

sounds like the usual hotspot features.

depends from area and building. i've heard of up to 50 users per accesspoint (it's possible to have many accesspoints connected to the hotspot server). in a building made of reinforced concrete its e.g. difficult to get floor to floor connections.

regards.

a decent processor speed ~1000mhz should handle it fine with about 1MB RAM per user depending on firewall rules and such..

so 1GHz 1GB RAM should handle all the connections fine, and like one user said before me the limiting factor is your AP's you're going to need a few of them to handle the user load, 802.11b is limited to 5.5mbps so you have some math to do. :)
